Do you struggle to stick to a meal plan each week? Do you even have one? If not then I urge you to have a go!

Since I have started to properly meal plan our meals, and plan ahead for what we are going to eat all week, I have saved so much money and not wasted as much food. I only buy what food I need for each meal,  and I have learnt how much we get through each week. I also don’t have that mad panic about what is for dinner each day!

A few weeks back we took a trip to Aldi for the first time, I was taking part in a campaign to see if I could feed my family on £2 each per day. I knew that Aldi would be cheaper for us to shop at, so gave it a go. Since then we have done pretty much all of our weekly shops there. We have saved so much money, and I have been completely surprised by the quality and taste. I was a bit of a ‘brand snob’ and thought that the Aldi food wouldn’t task very nice. However I have been proved completely wrong.

Each week I am going to put together my weekly shop to show you how much it all cost, and what we are eating each week. Hopefully it will give you some ideas for meals, and help you save some extra pennies too. Some weeks I am sure we will be more adventurous than others, and some weeks/days it will be super quick ideas too! We are a family of 5, husband, wife, son (12) and twin girls (7).

Hubby is the cook in our house, and we are going to start featuring some more recipes on my blog, which I will link to in the meal plans for you.

Week 5

Sorry I have missed a couple of weeks, but we have been on a couple of weekends away. This mucked up our weekly shopping, and I wasn’t able to keep track so easily.

This week we also had to shop at Sainsburys, as there was a problem on the motorway we take to get to Aldi, and we wouldn’t get back in time for the school run. This is the downside of shopping at Aldi, it is about 20 minutes away from us, so is more of an effort. However when the food shop is about £20-£30 cheaper each week, it is worth it for us.

Sainsburys £86.68

I am also going to try some of these Easy Slow Cooker Cinnamon Buns

I love Pinterest for meal ideas, follow my Main Meal Ideas board to keep up with things I am pinning.

  1. I love meal planning. Knowing exactly what I’m cooking each day literally takes away the stress of cooking 🙂 Great idea to order a takeaway on pay day!

    • I know bit cheeky isn’t it! It’s the only takeaway we have each month, so nice treat!

This looks like a lovely meal plan. My kids would love everything on it. They’re obsessed with macaroni cheese x

  3. I love all your meal ideas. I’m absolutely rubbish at meal planning but I think I need to start because we waste so much money! X

    • Thank you, we save so much money meal planning. Once you get use to it, it’s really quick and easy

  4. The London Mum Reply

Great meals you had planned! How frustrating though that you couldn’t get to aldi- but it shows the huge price difference!

    • Yes it is quite a big difference in price, didn’t think it would be THAT much each week but it adds up.

  5. Great meal plan. I write a meal plan every Sunday for the week ahead (and when I get chance I like to blog it on a Monday for #MealPlanningMonday too) but haven’t had chance this week..yet!

We love Aldi but there isn’t a local one to us and it defeats the money saving game if you have to spend more getting there than you’re saving!

    • Yes no point then is there, we have a empty shop in our village centre, so hoping that gets turned into a Aldi!
