This post is going to help you pick some clothes that are great to wear when renovating your home. After renovating 3 houses I’ve learned what clothes are great to wear, keeping you comfy, safe and not restricted.

We have renovated 3 homes over the years, and we always have a project on the go, so it means I have a little pile of clothing in my wardrobe that is only used for my renovating clothes! So I thought I would share with you what clothes I wear when renovating my home, and why.

Non Restrictive

Women’s clothing can be quite tight which is great at showing off your figure but it’s not something you want to be suffering through whilst tackling your renovation jobs. The clothes need to be stretchy so you can bend, kneel and move around without any restrictions. I love to wear a pair of leggings, these are tight, but they are very stretchy so no restrictions on movement.

I find jeans are the worst for wearing whilst renovating as these are so tight and restrictive with no moment in them. When you’re sat on the floor with your legs under you they will dig into the backs of your knees and get really uncomfortable.

Good Quality

You may think that you should just have a set of cheap clothes, but be aware that you may find the cheaper clothes are too thin. You don’t want to be bending over out in the front garden and all the neighbors can see straight through your leggings as their super thin!! You should get someone to take a look before you head outside, just in case!

No Low Rise

Don’t go for low-rise items, so many DIY jobs involve you being down on the floor, or bending over. You don’t want to be worrying about your trousers being low rise and slipping to show your bottom off! I also find them really annoying when they’re positioned like that even when no one can see.

Layering

Layer up your clothing, you will find your temperature goes up and down when doing your DIY jobs. So being able to remove and add layers easily allows you to adjust to the temperature. You might be doing a really physical job like sanding and getting hot, and then move on to painting which is a slow and steady job and your temperature will come right down. I love vest tops for this, with a jumper added for warmth.

No Hanging Clothes

Make sure you don’t have clothes that have lots of hanging bits and bobs. Not only is this dangerous it’s really annoying! When using electric tools you don’t want to have pieces of clothes getting caught into the tools and I don’t think I even need to say what could happen. Make sure your sleeves are pulled up, or long-sleeved items are best taken off to risk anything getting caught.

I also don’t like jumpers with hoods on when I’m doing DIY jobs as when I am leaning over things the hood comes up over the back of my head and is really annoying!

Pockets

Tactical Pants are great to wear when renovating as they have lots of pockets, I’m always storing little things in my pockets to use, or taking them to and from places. It’s a little storage place so you don’t lose screws when adding or removing them, cloths for cleaning up as you go along, or as a rubbish bin!

Shoes

You should make sure you’re wearing a supportive pair of shoes, don’t go for slip on’s. Slip-on shoes are great for taking on and off when moving from clean rooms to dirty rooms, but you need to have shoes on that you won’t worry are going to slip off when climbing ladders or moving around. This could easily cause an accident.

I hope this has helped you decided what to wear when renovating your home, you can find some lovely sets of clothing. You don’t have to look rubbish when doing DIY, just safe

  1. Having specific clothes is such a good idea, I have ruined far too many clothes on our recent renovation project.
