If you are lucky enough to have a large, free space within your home, you might want to think about turning it into a playroom for your children. This can enable you to keep their bedrooms as designated sleep spaces, but also prevent toys and clutter from taking over the rest of the home. You might need to put some thought into the design of this room to make sure that it is both a safe and enjoyable place for your children to spend their time.

Having some personal touches in the playroom can show your children just how much you love them. It can also be nice for them to look at the artwork on the walls of the room. The use of a family photo on wood can look incredibly chic, and may also fit in with some of your other design choices. This can also be fairly lightweight as well, meaning it may not cause damage to the walls. Opting for a wooden material can also negate the potential hazards that could occur if a glass-based photo frame were to shatter in this space. You may still want to consider hanging it up high enough that it is out of reach of your children.

You may have decided to have a number of storage solutions within the playroom to contain your children’s toys. For households with more than one child, it might be useful to have one unit per child, so they each have space for their own belongings. However, tall, or heavy units could pose a serious risk to your children’s welfare if they were to topple. There have been a number of stories of children being hurt and even killed, due to unsecured furniture.

While this could result from children attempting to climb, pull, or swing on them, the uneven ground might also lead to an incident. Therefore, you may want to look into some of the ways you can anchor these furnishings securely to the wall and prevent these accidents from occurring in the first place.

It is no secret that children can be incredibly messy. Due to this, you might want to think about the type of flooring you use within the playroom. Carpet may be softer, especially if they are prone to falling, but may also stain easily. The use of carpet squares, rather than a singular strip, may make it easier to replace destroyed sections. Likewise, wooden, or tiled flooring might be easier to clean, but can be a lot harder, and may even get ruined by excessive play. Linoleum could also be something you might want to consider, but this may not be as hard-wearing. Your budget, and the ease of cleaning and replacing, may factor into your choice of flooring.

Creating a playroom for your children can be a fantastic idea. Your children may be grateful for a designated space to play. At the same time, you may want to think of some of the ways you can improve on its safety and decoration.
