Our Hearing Dogs trainer gave us the chance to try for the Kennel Club Bronze Good citizen Award together at our puppy class.
We normally have the Hearing Dogs Star Awards to gain, these are made up by the Hearing Dogs and it gives us a good idea of what is expected of the puppies we train and what we should work on. The star awards are just assessed as we go along to our fortnightly puppy classes, so they are not formal and our trainer just watches are improvement as we go along.
BUT this one isn’t done like this!! The Kennel Club one is a formal test with a qualified assessor coming in to mark us, the pressure was on!!
We did lots of practicing but Rusty was finding the ‘wait’ a little tricky since his hormones have kicked in and he is becoming a teenager!! stubborn little know it all!! He needed to wait in the position for 1 minute which is really hard for a little pup!
BUT he did it!! PHEW!!
all our hard work paid off, I was so proud of my big fluffy teddy bear!
Here we are accepting our certificate from the assessor, look at Rusty’s paw on it! Saying
‘Yes I did it, that is mine’
If you are interested in seeing what was involved in the Kennel Club Bronze Good Citizen Awards see this PDF here any pet dog can give it a go to.
I love being a Hearing Dogs puppy socialiser, I love the opportunities it is giving me, new places and things we are doing together. If you love puppies and would love to volunteer please do consider doing it. If you can’t commit to full-time then how about holiday cover?
