Halloween is an interesting part of parenting, you spend your time telling children not to accept sweets from strangers, not to talk to strangers and don’t go knocking on peoples doors! Well when Halloween comes around you are then telling them that all of the above is ok! So a nice little chat about it beforehand was in need and to try and explain why we can on Halloween.
I do not agree with kids knocking on every door and scaring elderly people and bothering people who don’t want to be bothered. So we have a rule that we only knock at houses which have a pumpkin or something up to indicate they want to participate. This adds a bit more fun running around hunting out houses with pumpkins and the excitement of when they spot a house with one!!
So our Halloween 2013 started off by getting dresses in our outfits! The girls couldn’t wait any longer! Daddy sat down and started the mass pumpkin carving!! With 4 pumpkins to scoop out he had his work cut out!! We found some fab templates to use for the faces so each of the kids choose their own faces and set to work on getting them carved.
Once they were all carved it was Mummy’s turn to be creative and set to work on the face painting!! The girls are great, they love having their face painted and looked through the book and found their witches face for mummy to try.
***I want to note that this is the first time EVER that T has let me paint his face!!!!! ***
See the end results of face painting and pumpkin carving……………….
I was contacted by World Vision to carve a heart in a pumpkin to raise awareness for A night of Hope for all the children around the world who are living in fear. While we are preparing to enjoy a night of fun and frights there are children who live in real fear and not just one night of the year. So by carving and lighting my pumpkin heart I am showing I care. I put out my heart and poster in the window to show others why I had a heart carved pumpkin.
I am of course not going to waste all the insides of the pumpkins, I am going to toast the seeds to eat them as a snack and I am going to find a yummy muffin recipe to make some healthy muffins. There is so many tasty ideas on how to use up the insides so no need to waste it all.
So here is my little cheeky 3 ready to go out, your really scared arn’t you……???!!!
BUT how could you be scared of this little fella…….!!! He enjoyed coming out with all the children
