It is all happening for T over the next month or two and he suddenly is growing up and spreading his wings. I am really enjoying seeing him experience new things and gaining in confidence.
His first school trip is staying close by, he’s having a night camping in the school field.
Next one isn’t a school trip but a cubs camping weekend. To say he is super excited is a understatment! This will be his first ever experience of camping since he was 4 but also he has never stayed away with a group, only having a sleepover at friends houses. I think mummy will be more worried then he will be!
So it is down to me to make sure he has everything sorted and purchased to make it as easy and comfortable as possible.
Packing for a School Trip
Throughout their lifetime at school children are likely to be given numerous opportunities to take trips that involve overnight stays. From activity holidays in the depths of Somerset to camping holidays and trips abroad, there are plenty of chances to spread their wings and spend a few days with their friends away from home. But how can you ensure they have everything they need while they’re away? You’ll be given a list of things your child will need to take with them once his or her place has been confirmed on the trip, but in general they’ll need:
Luggage
Depending on where they’re going and for how long they might need a suitcase or just a rucksack or holdall. It’s much easier for children to pull their case along with them rather than lugging a heavy case with them on and off a coach and into their accommodation so make sure you get something that’s easy for them to manoeuvre. Even rucksacks can be wheeled along these days so shop around for the perfect bag.
Remember your child will be likely to produce a lot of dirty washing throughout their stay, especially if they’re camping or taking part in activities that will guarantee to get them dirty. Popping a bin bag in with their belongings will help them to keep dirty clothes separate from the rest of their belongings and make it easier for you to wash everything once they return home.
Clothes
The list you’ll get from school will tell you any specialist items that may need to be bought, like thermal undies and salopettes for skiing for example. But you can pretty much guarantee they’ll need underwear, socks, T shirts, one or two dressier tops or a dress if you have a daughter, trousers, sturdy shoes – and you’re sure to find boys and girls hoodies making an appearance on every child’s list of favourite items to wear. You can get great boys and girls hoodies at George quite inexpensively, guaranteeing to keep your child warm and comfortable without breaking the bank. They’ll also need a coat too.
All Those Little Extras
Your child will no doubt want to capture their memories of the holiday on film so make sure they have a camera they can use. A good suggestion is an inexpensive digital camera which you can pick up for as little as £20 these days. The key is not to send them away with something that you’d miss if it was lost or broken.
The school will usually set a limit on the amount of cash your child is allowed to take with them and as all activities are usually paid for in advance they shouldn’t have to carry a large amount of cash with them anyway. They’ll need enough for the odd drink or snack if they’re out and about sightseeing plus some spending money for souvenirs.
Other things they might need are any regular medication they might need to take, glasses, sunglasses, suncream and their passport if they’re travelling abroad.
Make sure they’re well prepared and you can wave them off with confidence that they’ll have a safe, comfortable and fun time.
