Last week I went on my first trip to London on my own and what a treat I was in for.
The lovely people at Rooms Made For You invited me along to a product event at the beautiful Shangri-La Hotel at the Shard in London.
As I arrived in London and came out from the underground station I turned the corner and was greeted with this view!
WOW!
We were treated to afternoon tea with that view! I would love to take hubby, Rooms Made For You have also treated me to go back and go right to the viewing point which is a lot higher than this, I was only on floor 34 of 72!
‘Thanks Rooms Made For You’
So the reason we were treated to this visit was to show myself and a group of fellow bloggers their new products. Now this may sound like this is going to be a boring post about plaster but I can tell you now, keep reading as it isn’t just any old plaster and interior product.
Thistle Magnetic Plaster
Thistle Magnetic Plaster was the first product for us to check out. This product has been designed to attract magnets and has so many uses in a family home.
We were shown how it could be used in your home. I love the idea of a notice board as I am fed up of putting things on my fridge which is glossy and scratches so easily with the magnets. I could organise all my pieces of paper, vouchers and things I need to pay for. We got the chance to make some of our own magnets as well which I have never thought of doing and it was so easy to achieve lovely, unique pieces.
The other idea I would love to implement in my house would be a family wall, a wall that attracts magnets for the children. They can pin up their certificates or pictures they do at school. As you can paint over the magnetic plaster you could use chalkboard paint so you can create a large chalkboard. This gives them a space where they can use their creative minds to create pictures and keep their special pieces.
The other idea I had was to create a wall mural, get some little characters, dolls and stick (super glue) pack of 25 small magnets on the back of the doll for them to create stories with and move around the whole wall. What lovely stories they could come up.
If you love traveling and want to keep track of the places you have been and a story board of your travels, how about a world map wallpaper wall mural and print a small picture for each place you have been.
So you as you can tell I love Thistle Magnetic Plaster and really want to find a place for it in my new extension. It is much more expensive than your normal plaster but unless you really wanted you wouldn’t be plastering your whole house in it. One 25kg bag covers 5m2 and is currently priced at £96.99 from Wickes.
Lifestyle Wall
The next product is Lifestyle Wall, this is essentially a strong, durable and sound resistant plasterboard BUT has the added bonus that you don’t need any fixings other than a screw to fix things to it!
All you need to do is screw the item onto the wall with no wall plugs or special drills. I even managed to screw into this with just a screw driver, it was so easy to do. It means that if you don’t have that many DIY skills you could easily put up your own shelves.
With normal plasterboard it is brittle and you need special fixings to hang anything up on the wall, with Lifestyle wall it is strong and durable.
We were shown some ideas on how you could use Lifestyle Wall, it can take the weight of bottles, TV’s and heavy load shelves. Just remember all this is done with just standard screws!
We were shown how strong it really is, this picture is a 12kg weight with a heavy chain holding it on the hook, it didn’t struggle at all!
Lifestyle Wall is extra durable and strong compared to your standard plasterboard, this is great for high traffic areas like hallways. Normally in hallways you have lots of hooks and storage so you can easily fix everything to the wall as well.
Now I can see using Lifestyle Wall in my home when we do our extension. When putting in a dividing wall to break up the existing lounge diner. Along this wall I would like to create an office space with lots of shelving, pots, storage and a floating desk. Lifestyle Wall would be a perfect solution for this.

Silent Flooring
The final product put on show for us was Silent Floor. Silent floor cuts sound by +15dB above the British standard building regulations flooring.
We were demonstrated this with a video with headphones to listen to the sound difference, I can tell you it was a big difference. I could hardly hear the noise!
This product would be great to be built into houses with offices, music rooms or bedrooms. My hubby works night shift so this would have been great to have in his bedroom with a set of crying twins!
This product is currently more useful for new builds, getting your builder to add it to the house as you build it rather than adding it to your house. It is no problem adding it on after though.
Silent Floor was awarded the Quiet Mark in October 2014 in recognition of the positive impact that it has on the aural environment in the home.
*Many thanks to Rooms Made For You for inviting me along to your bloggers event

I was as well very impressed with the Rooms For You innovations, especially the magnetic plaster. I’m looking forward seeing how you are going to use it in your house… I would love to have it in the reading corner for my girls but not till we get our own place.
I’ve never heard of magnetic plaster before. I would love that in my kitchen/diner.
I need all of these products, especially the lifestyle wall as we have lath and plaster on our walls and it is nightmare to get anything to stay up.
