I was asked by Wayfair to come up with homemade dog treat recipe for Berkley the Hearing Dogs puppy. As we use so many treats with our training it is nice to give him a change and come up with my own recipes. Berkley was a great food taster and happily tried out any samples!

Tuna Dog Training Treats
Ingredients
- 1 x 125g tin of tuna (reserve the liquid)
- 60g plain flour
- Optional: 1 egg for a softer texture
- Optional: 1 tablespoon peanut butter for extra flavour
Method
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (160°C fan) / Gas Mark 4.
- Drain the tuna, keeping the liquid aside for later if needed.
- Using a fork, mash the tuna into a smooth paste.
- Mix in the flour until a dough forms. If the mixture seems too dry, gradually add some of the reserved tuna liquid. For softer treats, mix in an egg.
- If desired, stir in peanut butter for added flavour.
- Roll or press the dough onto a lined baking tray. Use cookie cutters to create fun shapes if you wish.
- Bake for 30-45 minutes, depending on how firm you would like the treats to be.
- Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly. While still soft, cut into bite-sized pieces suitable for training rewards. Leave to cool completely before serving.
While homemade recipes are a fantastic way to spoil your dog, there are also times when convenience is key. Keeping a selection of high-quality dog treats on hand can be especially useful for training sessions, walks, or rewarding good behaviour throughout the day. Floppy Ear offers a range of natural options made with simple ingredients, giving pet owners an easy way to provide tasty rewards when there isn’t time to bake a fresh batch at home.
