These are one of my favourite posts to write, one where I can give you a little insight into what our plans are for a room. This time it’s my daughters woodland bedroom for Lily. She is 10 years old and an identical twin. She has been sharing a room with her sister her whole life, including when she was in my tummy! Up until about 2 years ago they never cared about being together, they loved it and they never moaned about it. All of a sudden they started to hate it, argued all the time about things in there and who was the messiest etc! They needed their own space, and I imagine the older and older they get the more and more they will want their own space.
Luckily we’ve recently been able to extend our home and create a 4th bedroom downstairs for my teenage son to move into. This then left the smaller 3rd bedroom empty and Lily happily wanted to move into this one!
Individuality
When the twins were babies I would always dress them the same, and I just expected them to be very similar in character and the things they love. This wasn’t good for allowing them to be invidudals, and as soon as they started to show they were very very different, allowed this 100%. They couldn’t be any more different, and they both know what they want!! So when it comes to decor they both have very different ideas for their new rooms. So it’s been lovely for them to have their own space to which they can now decide how they want this decorated. Something they love and the colours that they want. I did try and do this with their shared bedroom by giving them a side each of their own colour.
Why Does Lily Want a Woodland Bedroom?
Lily loves animals and nature, she loves to explore outside with us and find out new things about places. So she wants to bring that inside her home and into her bedroom with a Woodland Bedroom in natural colours, with oranges, greens and deep reds.

Wallpaper
There are so many wonderful wallpaper for kids designs out there to choose from and I think if your planning a main feature wall with wallpaper, start with this as your base to design from. Picking out the colours and adding in colours by using the wallpaper. Choosing a bold wallpaper means you can pick out more subtle items for the rest of the room, but picking a subtle wallpaper allows you to pull out the stops and colour into the items you purchase for the bedroom.
Lighting
I wanted to go for natural-looking lighting, with the rattan style lampshade and the bare hanging bulb. I love the idea of having the light up off the bedside table as the room is very small so we need to try and gain as much space as possible. So if she needs a small bedside table then it can be left clear of lamps.
Bedding
This duvet stood out to me straight away for her woodland bedroom, look how cute it is. It keeps the room light with its main colour but brings in the same colours as the wallpaper with the adorable animals dotted on it.
Mid-sleeper cabin beds are an essential piece of furniture for any girl’s woodland bedroom. These beds offer a variety of features designed to provide both function and comfort, such as elevated storage space and full-length guard rails for extra safety. The mid-sleeper cabin bed for kids also allows additional pieces to be added, providing even more creative options for turning a woodland room into the perfect hideaway. The mid-sleeper cabin bed is an ideal choice for a girl’s bedroom, bringing style, convenience, and comfort together in one piece of furniture.
Desk
As a Mum of a 15-year old I know how important it is for them to have a desk in their bedroom. It gives them someone to study peacefully in the house, and the girls are currently really into their art. They’re always drawing at the moment, which is so wonderful to see. Her room isn’t very big though so we really need to think about the desk and making it work. I love this simple style and oak desk though. It works so nicely in the room.
Storage
I’ve also learnt that you need to give kids plenty of storage if you want their room to stay slightly tidy and they learn how to do it themselves!! Give them places to store things. I loved this ladder-style shelving unit for her as she could place all her favourite things, add books to it for quick easy access to and also good for school books to be placed on.
Add in big rattan baskets like this as they are great for throwing in items or filling up with soft toys, which they seem to have loads of!!!
