I would love to live in a beautiful quirky cottage, with uneven walls, a beautiful outlook, with wooden windows. I can sit and drink my tea in front of them, just watching the birds flying around. Ok, that is really a picture perfect dream isn’t it!
Truth be told, I love getting out walking in the countryside, the country houses but I am not much of a country girl who wants to be self-sufficient, so I don’t want to be out in the sticks and the house would have to have central heating and drains!
I live in a very plain, run of the mill, 1960’s semi, with white PVC windows. All very normal and the same as everyone else.
Whilst I was dreaming of my country house and looking out of my wooden windows, I thought I would put together some ideas on how I would dress my wooden windows.
Traditional Long Hanging Curtains
If you need the privacy and prefer a softer look than traditional long hanging curtains are stunning. They frame the wooden windows beautifully, which also gives the windows an impressive look of height.
Roman Blinds
If you want to keep the fabric up and out of the way of the wooden windows, then try a Roman blind. You can pull the blind right up to the top of the window, which leaves the wooden windows exposed to show off. Which means that the beauty of wooden windows is you have a choice of colours and styles. I cannot help but look at the cute cottages, with their wooden windows in colours such as soft greens, with white walls and black wrought iron fixtures.
Leaving Bare
Which leads me to nothing, that’s it, keep the windows free of anything. Nothing to distract your eye but leaves you to be able to be able to show off the workmanship that goes into making these wooden windows. These above just blend into the background with the neutral colours of the room, but at the same time they are just stunning. Just make sure your not too over looked!
Do you worry that wooden windows won’t last as long, like I did? Well that isn’t true, they are expected to last twice the time than PVC-u windows. As they age you can cheaply repair them and bring them back to looking amazing again. You aren’t unable to do this with PVC-u windows as they discolor and go brittle in the sunshine.

Lovely post, I love the look of traditional wooden windows, especially with big bay windows!

Lovely post, we’ve got roman blinds – no curtains now because the kids kept pulling them trying to hid behind them and with such dry walls they just started to fall down. H x
We’ve got wooden windows in our cottage and in some cases we’ve got shutters, in other rooms we have blinds. I’m not a huge fan of curtains although we’ve got them in a couple of places cos, as you say, it softens the whole look in some instances and stops things looking too sparse. #HomeEtc

I love the beige and red strip Roman Blinds they look fantastic and so posh ha ha. I do prefer the long curtains though myself. I find them a lot warmer than blinds
The full length curtains are stunning! They just exude elegance and class. I think leaving bare is only an option depending on where you live x

Some great ideas. I have to admit that I am not a fan of bare windows, they just seem to be missing something and quite cold. My favourite have to be the lovely long curtains, there is nothing better than closing the curtains on a cold winters evening x
