As many of you already know, we’ve spent a LOT of time renovating our houses over the years and this has come with its fair share of ups and downs, and we’ve seen lots of new products come along, like Microcement. You often have to strip back rooms before you can reinvigorate and refresh them, turning them into the room of your dreams. Bathrooms have been a particular cause for concern over the years, stripping and scrapping away those old tiles only to find that when those tiles do come away, half of the plaster behind them then also comes away with them creating mess and problems aplenty!
Plaster Issues
Now usually, your only option is to hack away at those tiles and hope for the best. Repair the damaged plasterwork behind them and then you’re good to go to create that bathroom (or any other room) of your dreams. This approach can come with some quite large costs unless you’re a dab hand with a plasterers trowel. Finding and getting a good plasterer to do the job is not always easy or cheap.
Microcement Is A Great Solution To Cover Up What You Don’t Like
I’ve come across a new solution that could be just the ticket for any of my renovation projects in the future. Microcement from Smartcret is a decorative Microcement or micro-screed that can be applied directly on top of virtually any surface without the need to remove the existing materials first. Tiles on the wall you don’t like? No problem, Microcement can be applied straight over the top of them to create a modern concrete industrial look with the minimum of fuss. Don’t want to see those floor tiles anymore but can’t face the thought of trying to prise them all up off the floor? Just use Microcement on top of them and they’re all gone, simple.
Use Microcement On Multiple Surfaces
But also, its uses don’t stop there. Microcement can also be used on other surfaces too, from plasterboard walls to floors to been outdoor terracing. You could easily have a uniform finish throughout your dream extension that extends out into your garden space as well to create that open clean modern look.
Ready-Made Plaster
So what makes it so easy compared to say traditional floor screed or plaster? Well apart from the obvious fact that it can be used over a multitude of existing materials (there’s very little preparation involved compared to more traditional methods) Microcement comes ready to use straight out the tub which is a godsend in itself. No mixing powder and water anymore in just the right quantities and getting mess everywhere before you even start work! Plus because of all this, it’s super easy to use so that any DIY enthusiast will be more than up to the task.
Lots Of Finishes
But I hear you ask, what about finishes? I don’t want all of my rooms to be industrial concrete grey? Smartcret has the answer. Microcement comes in a range of 35 colours and 2 different finishes (satin and matte) so there should be no problem finding a finish and colour to suit almost everyone but if you can’t find quite what you’re looking for, you can also paint over it using any colour you like so the colour choices then become endless.
When I start my next renovation project (which I’m sure won’t be too far in the future) then I will certainly consider using Microcement for the sheer ease of use and the mess and hassle-free application it provides.
