A king-size bed is a luxurious addition to any bedroom, offering ample space to stretch out. However, styling a king-size bed to create a cosy and inviting atmosphere that reflects your personal taste can be challenging. Here are some tips to help you achieve a beautifully styled king-size bed.

The Importance of a Well-Styled Bed

A well-styled bed brings an air of refinement and attention to detail to the bedroom. It conveys a sense of cleanliness and organisation, enhancing the overall aesthetics of the space. Since the bed is the focal point of the bedroom, a well-styled bed can substantially improve the room’s look, tying all design elements together for a harmonious and pleasant environment.

In addition to aesthetics, a well-designed bed also provides more comfort and functionality. The right bedding and pillows can help regulate your body temperature while providing adequate support for a restful night’s sleep.

How to Style a King-Size Bed

There are many ways to style a king-size bed. Below I’ll list the main elements you’ll need to create a beautifully styled king-sized bed.

Sheets

Start with high-quality sheets, as they touch your skin directly and form the bed’s core layer. 100% cotton king size sheets are soft and inexpensive, making them an excellent choice. But for a truly luxurious feel, opt for extra-long staple cotton, such as Egyptian or Prima.

You will need, though, to be extra careful when buying these sheets because there have been reports of sheets advertised as Egyptian or Prima cotton containing only a small fraction of true Egyptian or Prima cotton, or even a different sort of cotton entirely. So, while purchasing this type of sheet, make sure to read the labels and select a reputable retailer.

Sheets with a high thread count are commonly regarded as being of high quality. However, manufacturing advancements now enable manufacturers to produce greater thread counts without affecting quality. According to tests, the king size sheets range of 300 to 500 is ideal for both softness and strength. Sheets with a thread count of 200 will not be very comfortable, and anything above 500 is not always better.

You should also consider the weave of the sheet. Your primary possibilities are percale and sateen. Percale is a simple, grid-like fabric that feels lightweight and crisp. Percale sheets are the lightest and most breathable cotton weaves, making them ideal for warmer areas and individuals who sleep hot.  Sateen has a sateen weave and feels silky smooth. This type of weave has a larger thread count than percale, resulting in a heavier feel, making sateen sheets an excellent choice for cold winter snuggling.

Sheet sets generally include a fitted sheet, a flat sheet, and at least two pillowcases. Make sure you choose a king sheet set to guarantee that the sheets fit a king mattress and the pillowcases fit over king bed pillows. You can’t go wrong with standard white sheets for a versatile neutral background, but there are lots of patterned or solid-colour alternatives to add interest to your comforter or duvet.

King bed sheet sets typically consist of a fitted sheet, a flat sheet, and at least two pillowcases and they often fit king-size mattresses and pillows well. However, it is a good idea to measure the depth of your mattress; you may need to get an extra-deep size sheet. Remember to account for extras such as mattress toppers.

Duvet and Cover

Choose a duvet or comforter that offers warmth without overheating. A full, puffy cover will make your bed look cosy and inviting. For a duvet cover, pick a solid colour or pattern that suits your style. Solid, neutral-coloured linen covers are especially inviting. Turn your duvet down approximately halfway to show off the light blanket below, giving your bed a nice, fluffy appearance.

Pillows

There are different approaches you can use to create a fashionable king bed pillow arrangement, but the most classic way starts with two to three euro pillows placed against the headboard. The square shape of euro pillows, in addition to creating a great contrast to conventional rectangle bed pillows, are also ideal for king-size mattresses because they are normally larger (65 x 65 cm) and can cover the breadth and height of a headboard.

This prevents the whole bed from appearing enormous when contrasted with the pillows. Despite their large size, euro pillows are not commonly used for sleeping. They can, however, add additional cushions behind king-size bed pillows.

After euro pillows come the standard bed pillows. These are the pillows you sleep on, therefore size and quantity are important. Place two to four king-size bed pillows in front of your euro pillows. You must select “king-size” bed pillows because they are intended to be wider to fill out the spacious mattress of a king bed.

For comparison, these pillows are typically 50 x 90 cm.  A tip from designers you can consider is using neutral pillowcases for your king bed pillows to highlight the euro shams, throw pillows, and bedding. If you opt for four king bed pillows, choose neutral pillowcases for two and decorative pillow shams for the remaining two. Pillow shams with ornate trim and gorgeous detailing can give a little touch of elegance to your bed pillow.

Throw pillows are a must when decorating a king-size bed. Consider using two to three-throw pillows to add the right amount of design without overpowering your bed. Of course, feel free to do what feels right for you! The extra space that king-size beds offer can accommodate a few more toss pillows without taking up too much space. The range of sizes that throw pillows are available ranging from 45 x 45cm, 50 x 50cm and 55 x 55cm gives you a lot of flexibility.  When putting throw pillows on a king-sized bed, begin with the largest. For optimal results, arrange smaller throw pillows directly in front of or around bigger throw pillows.

A Throw

To complete the look, place a wool or cotton throw blanket across the bottom of your bed. Use something soft and cosy on nights when you need extra warmth. Chunky knits are ideal for fall and winter, while lightweight throws are appropriate for the warmer months.
