As my twins are starting school in Sept it has got me thinking about my future and my career. My life for the past 9yrs have just been for my children and my family. This is what I wanted, this is what we choose to do when I had my son and that I was going to be a SAHM.

I wouldn’t change it and have enjoyed my time with them all, but it has meant that now I am looking at my career. Before my son I was looking at a career with children, well my 3 have put a stop to that!! I have my own now and feel that I need to do something else other than children!

So my next enjoyment is working with dogs, I love dogs, I love training them and how happy they are to work with you and please you. So I decided to look into working with the assistance dogs, I came across the hearing dogs and that they were looking for puppy socialisers in my area. So after lots of thinking, I had a chat with the children about it all and things it would involve and research I applied!

My role will be to do the basic training and house training, attend the training classes and take the puppy to all the different places to help make it a happy easy going puppy. I am really looking forward to this, I am looking forward to the social side of this for me and being able to get out and about. As it is a hearing puppy in training (with the say so of the shop/venue) you can take them out and about with you.

Regarding my career and why this is also going to help me……I would like to work with dogs and working with the assistance dogs would be something I really would like to look into doing in the future. This role will give me some experience under my belt and whilst my kids are young I can do this but also be able to attend the school visits and activities that I do love! You never know school may even be happy for the puppy to come along!!

A couple of weeks ago I visited a training class with my local trainer to see the work they do at the classes and to see if this is something I would enjoy, I knew I would as it is right up my street! So today she came to visit the house and check everything was safe for the puppy and the garden was acceptable. Asked some questions and filled out her forms and she is very happy with everything and we have been accepted!

So the waiting starts for a puppy now! I have also put myself forward for holiday cover so we may get one for the weekend or the week whilst someone is on holiday. I will use my blog to chat about the puppy and my experiences, so keep following!
