I really loved this Bishops Waltham circular walk and it was a bit unexpected on how nice the route was. We have visited Bishops Waltham many a time, we love Sweet Corner sweet shop, and the yummy Stainers Bakery and a little picnic in Bishops Waltham Palace, but we hadn’t ventured off too far around the outskirts.

We parked at Lower Lane car park, it’s a pay and display car park with reasonable parking charges.

A red car is parked awkwardly across several empty spaces near a kerb in Bishops Waltham, with other cars properly parked nearby. The photo, taken from inside another car with its door frame visible, shows trees and houses in the background. A parking meter and a blue Pay & Display sign in a Bishops Waltham car park next to a brick wall. The sign lists parking charges, hours, and penalties—perfect for anyone starting a Circular Walk nearby. Part of a parked silver car is visible on the right.

Along the side of the car park is a little pathway along this fence line, which leads you to some housing.

A narrow paved path, part of the Bishops Waltham Walk, runs between a brick building with green bushes and a tall wooden fence covered with ivy, leading towards trees in the distance under a blue sky.

Take the bridge over the water and look out for lots of ducks and wildlife.

A wooden footbridge surrounded by greenery leads into a sunlit path on the Bishops Waltham Circular Walk. A blue sign on a lamp post reads “CYCLISTS DISMOUNT.” The sky is clear with a few clouds and fences border both sides of the path.

A swan swims in a pond with five fluffy cygnets—three near, two further away—amid green vegetation and a wooden platform on the right, a tranquil scene you might spot along the Bishops Waltham Walk.

Once over the bridge turn left and take the road along to the roundabout, cross over the roundabout.

A quiet road in Bishops Waltham bordered by green grass and trees, with a pavement on the left. Wooden posts separate the grass from the road. Road signs are visible ahead, perfect for a peaceful walking trail under a blue sky with scattered clouds.

Take this path with this gate and signage.

A wooden gate with red and white markings blocks a gravel path leading into a lush, green wooded area. To the right of the gate, a green sign provides information about the Bishops Waltham Circular Walk walking route.

It’s a  lovely tree-lined pathway which would be lovely to take a little stroll along and turn around if you wanted to just stretch your legs.

A sunlit walking trail near Bishops Waltham, surrounded by dense, green trees and foliage, with dappled sunlight filtering through the leaves to create a peaceful, natural tunnel effect.

Once at the end you will find a large gate, and you need to turn right and along the small road.

A wooden gate opens onto a sunlit rural road near Bishops Waltham, surrounded by dense green foliage and trees. A warning notice is posted on the gate, marking the start of the scenic Bishops Waltham Walk beneath dappled shadows.

You head through some horse fields and take a path through them to the right

A rural scene near Bishops Waltham with a wooden fence along a path, green fields, trees, a brown horse grazing, and a tall electricity pylon beneath a blue sky—perfect for the Bishops Waltham Walk.

It looks a bit like your going into someone’s home, but it’s OK it’s a public footpath!

Once through all the gates and tracks, bare around to the left. You will see some more large gates where you need to take the path to the left and follow the small pathway around to the right and follow the river along so it’s on your left hand side.

When you get to the fork take the left hand side so you drop down towards the fields.

You will arrive at this gate, go through, and to the right.

I was so surprised by these fields as I didn’t know these were like this. It has a little river running through the middle and livestock do graze here so be aware if you’re walking alone or with your dogs.

Not sure what happened to this photo but you want to follow the fields all the way through in a straight line until you reach a track/road, cross over it and you will see this pathway to the left.

Head through the fields which had lots of cows in, until you see this little bridge over a river.

You want to head to the very end of the field, where you can see some farmers buildings.

We visited in the summer and this was a bog!!!

Go along the field to the top

Past the nursery, and through it. Again feels like somewhere you shouldn’t be, but it’s OK!

Keep going until you see this gate, cross through this and over the fields.

Now, this is where I thought I could turn up the road to the right, but when we got there it was a main fast road without any pavement and I didn’t feel comfortable with the children walking along it. You could and it would cut the last of the walk off. It brings you out on the same main road, Winchester Road.

So we crossed over the road, up the track, and found this footpath through into the hedges here.

Follow the pathway along and you will see this large wooden gate, go through here and follow it along

This is a straight pathway filled with woodlands and hedgerows, but you can hear the main road on your right.

In the end, you will come out onto the main Winchester Road, but further up. Cross over the road to the pavement, and follow the road along to the right and this will take you back into Bishops Waltham

And you will arrive back at the first roundabout and head along left to the wood bridge over the pond and you’re back.

This walk was about 5 miles long I reckon, which is a longer one than we usually do, and we’re tired out by the end of it! But I loved how all this was hidden behind all the roads and very peaceful.

It seems like a really varied walk which is great. It’s nice to be out in the country and away from the masses too.
