Next on my list of rooms to do is the lounge, about a year ago we quickly did the lounge so it didn’t look like this…..
(picture was taken before we moved in)
We quickly filled it with so much furniture, kids toys and stuff. We never bought anything at the time that fitted that house as it all came from the previous house. So we wanted to smarten it up, get rid of that carpet and fresh clean walls.
However I needed to get rid of that original brick fireplace and we built our own custom designed one, well done hubby!
We had a sofa and armchair that was too big for the room, the armchair was always in the way and we couldn’t all sit on the sofa together.
The colours were dark, which made the room even darker than it is already.
Look at ALL that stuff behind! It was just in the way and not the right pieces of furniture for the room.
As a family that is close and loves spending time together we soon realised that the room wasn’t working for us at all.
So now the time has come to put our proper stamp on the room, get rid of the furniture that doesn’t work, move the room around and bring in some bright colours.
We have purchased our sofa from DFS, we have gone for the DFS Sophia sofa in pearl combination, which has scatter cushions in sky blue, greys and mustard yellow. I thought this gave the room the large light colour of the sofa fabric but the colours in the cushions. Which over time if I decide for a change of colours we could just change the cushion colours.
Picture above is the grey combination, which has purple cushions instead of the blue ones I have and dark main fabric.
I have picture below the colour style we have gone for but we have chosen to go for a large corner sofa, this means we can easily fit everyone on it to snuggle up and watch TV on and when we have guests over there is plenty of room too. So far it is working great, makes the room feel larger but also more cosy at the same time. It is really sociable when friends are over as they are all facing each other too. We love it!
So now I just have to put together all my ideas for colours, accessories and then have fun doing it!

Hey Steph
Really random question – we’re considering buying a DFS Sophia Corner Sofa in Pearl and I wondered how this has held up since you bought it 6 years ago?
Thanks in advance!
Hi Claire. We love it! It’s held up really well and there is 5 of us and it’s still really good and the cushions are still really thick haven’t sunk etc

I love your chosen colour scheme. A corner sofa is a good idea, great for snuggling up together. Your fire place is wonderful, so much more stylish than the previous one, well done hubby! #HomeEtc
ADORE this colour combo! The blue is really similar to the blue in our living room and it works really well – it’s such a lovely, calming colour. That sofa looks super comfortable too! x
My favourite colour combinations! It was Abbie’s nursery colours at the beginning too! Nice and neutral but with that pop of colour from the yellow, it really makes the room stand out! What an amazing job you’ve done to the living room though, love the green in it, and the floor 😀 x
Really loving the colour scheme, it is the perfect scheme for a living room like yours 🙂
Love this Steph! What a gorgeous combo of colours!! I’ve just posted something similar using gunmetal grey . I think all the greys, in an interior setting, are fabulous. Such a great foil for other colours!
You should come and link up your lovely home posts on a linky that I cohost on a Wednesday called #HomeEtc. It’s for all home and garden inspired posts — this kind of thing is perfect! 🙂 xx
