Whilst we were visiting Newquay with Parkdean Resorts in June we visited some fantastic places. So I wanted to share them in more detail with you. I can also pin them on my ‘Places We’ve Visited Map‘ which gives my readers lots of ideas of places to visit.

Holywell Bay Beach

Holywell Bay is a beautiful sandy beach in Newquay, and as I’ve since found out from our visit Cornwall has so many stunning sandy beaches to choose from that you’re really spoilt for choice!

A sandy dune with patches of green grass under a blue sky with wispy clouds at Holywell Bay Beach. Walking trails wind up the dune, and a small black sign is visible among the grass near Newquay.

Holywell Bay is about a 5 minute walk down a track from the toilets and car park which makes it really peaceful beach.

A wide sandy beach at Holywell Bay stretches towards a calm blue sea under a partly cloudy sky, with two rocky islets visible in the distance. Subtle tyre tracks and footprints mark the sand near this scenic Newquay coastline.

But it’s large! So if you’re planning on setting up around the corner from the sand dunes, you need to add another 5 minute walk back to the toilets and car park!

Holywell Bay School Of Surf

Three people carrying surfboards walk across the sandy Holywell Bay Beach towards the sea, with gentle waves and a few others in the water under a clear blue sky.

We visited Holywell Beach because it was close to the caravan van park we were staying at but we also wanted to try out the Holywell Bay School Of Surf which is on the beach here.

Three people sit on surfboards on the sandy beach at Holywell Bay near the shoreline, with calm blue and green sea waves in the background under a clear sky.

My girls had never tried surfing so were a little nervous, but the instructor was brilliant. He put them at ease and was patient with them. They loved it!

Three people in wetsuits enjoy the calm sea at Holywell Bay Beach near Newquay; two stand in the shallow water while one lies on a surfboard close to the shore under a clear sky.

They couldn’t quite get the balance to stand up, but I think that was more nerves to try it!

Three people in wetsuits are in shallow sea waves near the shore at Holywell Bay Beach, with two sitting on surfboards and one standing in the water, sandy beach in the foreground, and calm sea stretching towards Newquay in the background.

They did ‘ride the waves’ though and that was enough for them to feel they had achieved surfing! They know have the knowledge that Holywell Bay Surf School gave them and I am sure next summer they will want to visit the best beach in the UK for surfing waves!!

A person in a wetsuit stands in shallow sea water at Holywell Bay near a child lying on a surfboard, riding a small wave towards the sandy shore. A person wearing a green wetsuit lies on a surfboard, paddling towards shore on small ocean waves under a clear sky at Holywell Bay Beach.

Announcing as soon as they had finished they wanted a surfboard for when we go to the beach!!

Two children in wetsuits sit on surfboards on wet sand at Holywell Bay Beach, smiling and waving at the camera. The tide is low, leaving a wide expanse of sand and shallow water around them near Newquay. Two people sit on surfboards on the wet sand at Holywell Bay Beach while a surf instructor in a wetsuit kneels on a yellow surfboard, giving instructions. The sea and sky are visible in the background.

Sand Dunes and Caves

Whilst we were waiting for them to finish their 2-hour lesson we chilled out on the beautiful beach. It’s edged with large sand dunes that people were bodyboarding down!

Also edged with large cliffs with the coastal path along them so you can walk around the top along, and underneath you’ll find caves to explore inside!

We haven’t really got caves near us so it was fascinating to be able to explore so many around Cornwall on our weekend.

We loved Holywell Bay Beach so if your in this area it’s well worth a visit. Just be aware of the distance from the toilets and carrying everything from the car. But when you get to the beach it’s worth it for the peace and natural beauty.

Having a clear checklist can make beach days with kids so much easier and far less stressful. This guide on what to pack in your beach bag for a fun family day out is a great way to make sure you have all the essentials covered.

We visited Newquay and collaborated with Parkdean Resorts but I wasn’t asked to write this post.

We visited hollywell bay during the may half term this year, my daughter and her cousins loved exploring the rock pools looking for creatures. They said they’d love to go back to have a surf lesson next time.
