Pipes and Cables Everywhere! / House Extension Week 10

Pipes and cables everywhere! 

OK week 10, it’s been a busy house this week with different trades in and my builders also. I’m starting to struggle with a full house, the mess and dirt everywhere! But I’m keeping my cool and pushing through with a smile!!! 

The ceiling all got taken down this week, we’re lowing the ceiling a bit as we have higher than normal ceilings so if we bring it down a bit then we can hide this steel and have a totally flat ceiling which will look so much nicer.

The electrician was in, getting all the electrics put in place so the builders then can start plasterboarding over it all and hidden under the floor and ceilings. This is the part you need to know where everything is going so you can plan the electrics. They will ask you where you want everything, sockets, lights, switches. So make sure you have a plan of where your furniture is going!

Insulation going in everywhere so it can get warmer in here. It’s going to be the warmest part of the house as there’s insulation everywhere!!

Lots and lots of plasterboard arriving! I can’t wait to all of this is up on the walls as it means we’re so much closer to finished!

Someone stole the front door……

and put it on the front of the house! We’re keeping the same front door but just moving it forward, it looks so nice on the front now. Even the neighbours commented how nice it looks on the new part now. I think it’s just because they got so used to the ugly site door on the front!!

The electricians use a chaser tool to cut out the gaps for the wires quickly and neatly. Look how neat that straight line is!

I also learnt all about a ‘water table’ which is what this puddle is! Apparently, that’s basically sea level but it’s just very close to our floor under our house!! It rises up and down with how much rain we’ve had.

Then the plumber came for 2 days and got lots and lots of pipework in! There is so much of it under the floor that we won’t ever see again. Let’s hope it all works ok when they run water through them!!!

The bonus of having a build like this and your house being pulled apart is being able to add extras like an outside tap to your house easily. As we don’t have side access anymore this will be useful to have outside the front for washing the car, watering plants etc 

This was taken on a sunny morning when the light was flooding the utility room through the sun tunnel. We’ve been worried that it wasn’t enough coming in, but once the sun shines it’s brilliant. 

We’re on week 11 now and the rush is on to get it ready for my kitchen to be fitted on 25th November! Will it be ready??!

    It is certainly all coming along! So much has to be done before all of the finishing touches but watching the progress is fantastic to see.

      SOoooo much stuff before the finishing bits, the weird thing is I have to think about all those finishing touches when it all looks a mess!!

      hhhhhmmmmmmm……I’m trying to!! I have enjoyed seeing each and every stage, I will appreciate the effort behind it to get it to each stage now

    Gosh Steph I can’t believe how much it’s all been coming on since I read your last update. You must be absolutely thrilled with the progress and nice that the plasterboard is coming into effect now.

      Thank you, it’s amazing how quickly it does come together, but I’m ready for it to be finished now!!

    Make sure they put plenty of that insulation in everywhere, it’s freezing now!!! The ceiling should be great when done. Lucky they were high to start with.
