Whether you’ve just invested in a new home or you’re looking to go through a renovation, you’ll often be excited about the decorating process. There are so many rooms in a home to focus on, and most of the time, we’ll often find ourselves focusing on spaces like the kitchen, living rooms, and bathrooms. As much as they will always take precedence, it’s important not to overlook one key room that will play a big part in your life… the office!

For many of us, having a calming space to work from home is essential. Whether you’re working remotely, have your own business, or want a space dedicated to your side hustle, pulling together the perfect home office space could be your top priority right now. So, let’s take a look at four key things for you to focus on right now.

Choosing the Right Room

To begin with, one of the most important decisions you need to make is where you should put your office. For many of us, when we want a workspace in the home, there are a few options to consider. The first is in a spare bedroom that isn’t currently being used. Another option will often be a designated study room that was intentionally built to be an office in the first place. If either of these two options doesn’t work for you, you could also consider utilising your garage or loft space if you have either. Finally, you could also consider bringing a specialist office construction into your garden or outside space, such as a shed or purposely built outside office.

Function First

When you’ve made the decision on where the office will be, your next port of call is getting the space planned out. As much as we all love to focus on the decorating aspect, the function needs to be your priority here. Think about what kind of desk you might want, the amount of storage you will need, and whether you need any additional specialist equipment for your job, industry, or business. With this nailed, you can then start to bring it all together.

Aiming for Optimal Focus

Because this room is all about work (and, as a result, productivity, too), you’ll want to start decorating it with the idea of focus in mind. Sure, enjoy bringing in all your favourite colours – but you could also think about the colours that help stimulate productivity, such as blue, orange, or green. Also, make sure you bring in things like blinds and lighting that will help you stay focused. It’s so easy to overlook these key considerations initially and only realise when you get to work!

A Cosy, Comfortable Finish

Finally, you’ll want to get your home office creation all wrapped with the finishing touches. This could be bringing in family pictures or artwork that inspires you. You might even want to find a comfortable chair supporting you as you work. And don’t forget things like cushions and blankets for comfort. You may even want to bring in a coffee maker or mini fridge so that you have drinks and snacks to hand and don’t have to move around the house too much!
