Make your home cosy for winter

If you are looking for a new property – be it a large house or one of the converted flats to buy it is important to take into consideration the weather.

After all, we do live in England – a country known for its harsh winters. So, before you purchase a property it is important to work out how you will make your new home warm for Christmas and the winter months.

Here, are a few ideas of how to make your new home warm and cosy this winter – ready to create some new memories.

Decor

Making the most of any home by putting up Christmas decorations is always fun. However, once January comes – so do more of the dark nights and cold mornings before spring approaches.

How ‘cosy’ a house is, is really all down to perception and of course your style of decor can play a big role. White walls and minimalist styles can lead to a cold feeling in any living space during the winter. Therefore, it makes sense that using ‘warmer’ darker colours can have the opposite effect.

Clever use of carpets or rugs also make a difference to the way we feel about a room, as well as having a practical effect by making cold bare wood or tile floors more foot-friendly.

Heating

Having the most effective method of heating throughout a home is almost too obvious to mention. Strangely though, even those people with modern and up to date gas fired central heating can find their homes aren’t as cosy as they would like.

New approaches based around under-floor heating can be great for large open plan arrangements when wall mounted radiators can’t get the job done. However, perhaps the cosiest of all home heating is still the traditional ‘open fireplace and chimney’ set-up which seems to work its magic in all types of homes.

Lighting

The way your home is lit can be a big factor in how cosy it feels. The pure natural light given off by candles simply can’t be beaten for a truly warming and relaxing effect.

Table lamps and both; up lighters and down light arrangements can allow you to play with shadows in a clever way too. All of these options avoid the stark over-brightness that can result from a large central ceiling lighting arrangement.

With these ideas in mind, it shouldn’t be hard to ensure your home is warm, cosy and perfectly prepared for the winter.
