Another month along and another month of our garden changing.  We’ve had heatwaves and torrential showers! But it’s good for the garden!!!!

So what have we been up to this month in my garden? Last month when I wrote my post about My Garden This Month I mentioned we’re extending the patio, and then adding stones along the edges. So we managed to get that job done and even more….!

Extending The Patio

A white planter with a small tree sits on a black mat near a glass door and brick wall on the patio—perfect for your May monthly gardening routine. A wicker sofa is on the left, and the ground appears to be unfinished or recently worked on.

A cream-coloured dog lies on a tiled patio next to a wicker outdoor sofa with grey cushions. In My Garden this June, potted plants flourish, while a closed umbrella and brick house with glass doors complete the tranquil scene under a partly cloudy sky.

A small back garden patio with a wicker storage box, a round inflatable hot tub, potted plants ready for the May Monthly Garden, a broom, and garden tools. The area is tiled and partly covered with gravel, by a red brick wall and grey fence.

A small, modern patio in my garden with a round inflatable hot tub, wicker furniture, potted plants, and raised flower beds—perfect for relaxing in June against a red brick house with trellis panelling and lush greenery.

I was very lucky that I had some lovely little helpers to lay the stones out for me!

Three people wearing hats work together on hands and knees, spreading black material beside a garden and a brick house next to a grey fence, making improvements under the bright June sun.

Pergola

I also mentioned last month that we’re going to add a pergola over the hot tub area. Well we made a start this month. This picture was from last month, look to the sides near the house……

A well-maintained back garden with a patio, parasol, potted plants, and a covered barbecue showcases the beauty of My Garden in May. A brick house with large windows sits in the background under a clear blue sky.

A two-storey brick house with a well-kept garden, raised white flower beds, green lawn, and a paved patio area. Decorative plants and flowers border My Garden’s outdoor space under a partly cloudy June sky.

We decided to build the sides this year as it meant we could use these sections as screening from the neighbours and give my plants a chance to start growing up them.  Meaning next year they will be established and grow really well next year.

A leafy green vine climbs up a white lattice trellis in a sunny June garden, with blue sky and trees visible in the background.

This plant is a passionflower and it grows rapidly and has amazing flowers on that the bees love

A passion flower with white and purple petals and a distinctive centre is surrounded by green, glossy leaves, bringing vibrant beauty to the June garden.

I waited 6 weeks for this plant, so was pretty disappointed when it arrived looking like this! However, it is meant to be a fast grower and the company assured me that they offer a 2-year guarantee on their plants if they don’t grow. We will see what it’s doing next month!

This is a Clematis which has a purple and cream flower that flowers throughout the summer and has semi-evergreen leaves.
A small plant is tied to a bamboo cane and growing against a grey lattice panel in my garden. Surrounded by white pebbles, a brick wall stands on the right and fresh green leaves add colour to this peaceful June scene.

This one is pink jasmine and grows super well too and smells lovely. Spot my daughters sunflower next to this too! We all planted 2 seeds each, so 10 in total and only hers grew!!

This one on the other side is a rambling rose with tiny little pink flowers.

Maybe next month they would have grown really well! Fingers crossed hey!

Plant Out My Seedlings

It was time to plant out my seedlings that I’ve been growing on the window sil over the lockdown. I am keeping all fingers and toes crossed they survive! Some got eaten as soon as I put them out, didn’t even last a night!

Fruit Trees

My apple tree is coming along nicely, with the fruit growing nicely. I do think I’m meant to pick off the smaller ones so I’m left with only 3 each branch. So that’s a job to do, this month coming.

Pears are doing really well, I have quite a few this year.

Connected Up The Water Butt

We had a water butt that was here when we moved in and it was connected to the garage guttering. It wasn’t easy to get to, so never got used, After one night of heavy rain it’s full up and I can use it to water the plants now,

My plant growing up here will hide it too, and we have positioned it so the little spout comes out the bottom.

Not Everything Is Happy

I’ve got a couple of plants that really haven’t been happy this year. I got them last year and this one was about triple the size!!

I had to cut this one right back, it got cover in white mildew and was dying. I think it’s where I would sprinkle the water over the plant when watering and not the soil, so got too damp. So I’ve cut it right back and I can see new shoots already so it’s still alive.

Flowers That Are Growing In The Garden

I have a couple of new Fushias that are growing well

My agapanthus have just popped out and I have double the amount of flowers that I had last year, so that’s great news

Buddleia bush has started to pop out flowers now, the butterflies love this one and it grows so well.

I purchased this one last year, and it wasn’t until it popped out this year that I remembered it. I think it’s called an Aster

My white Hydrangea has exploded with flowers!

My Lamb’s Ears are flowering too

I love this little flowering plant, it’s called ‘Whirling Butterflies’ and looks like little butterflies. It grows really well and the flowers are so cute

My favourite flowers have to be Roses, just look at this one. Its flower head is so big, smells amazing and is growing so well on the fence.

This is a new little one that I picked up randomly when we visited Homebase! Veronica, I think it was called, I wanted something to fill a gap in the planter and this worked well.

The bamboo was placed behind the sofa area to grow up the fence, creating a screening. But I don’t think I realised just how much water they really do want!

So this month I’ve made sure I’ve watered it much more and see how much it’s grown!

Built A Bug House From A Pallet

The girls homeschooling work was about insects and bugs, researching what could be good for a bug house. So we made our own from a pallet we had laying around. I think it looks cool sat in the trees!

So I hope you liked a little look around the garden and what’s going on. I think gardens are constantly changing, so see you next month!

Wow, your garden is beautiful! We really need to redo our garden, as its just lawn with a seating area at the moment. I’d love to grow some pretty flowers, but i kill everything!

    • I bet you wouldn’t kill everything, look up some ‘hardy flowers for the garden’ and I reckon you will find some you love that don’t need much care!
