This post will be sharing with you my personal honest review of the Ruggable which is a washable rug that I purchased myself to add to my interiors and protect my wood flooring. The Ruggable washable rug is a brilliant idea for busy households.
I first spotted the Ruggable rugs on Instagram, they came in so many different colours and patterns, but most importantly they were a rug that was easy to wash. It was perfect for our household, with two dogs and 3 children I needed something that would keep on looking good, and didn’t need professional cleaning all the time.
This was my dining room space, we have real wood flooring that needed to be protected, but also I felt the table looked a little lost without a rug here.
I felt it would lighten up the flooring and zone the table by adding a rug. It would give the chairs something to run along, rather than the wood floor.
Shipping Of The Ruggable Rug
Ruggable ships to the UK, Germany, Austria, the United States (including Alaska and Hawaii) and Canada. Which is amazing! You can find more about their delivery details on their website. They used FedEx for shipping which is great as I could track the shipping very easily and was kept informed. I received a delivery date very quickly as it was shipped quickly, however it didn’t arrive on this date. It was quite a few days later than that when it did arrive. So do keep an eye on the tracking yourself, as I was aware I needed to be in for the deliveries due to them being large packages.
When it arrived I was really surprised by the size of the box! I had ordered a large rug for this area, so expected a large heavy box, but it wasn’t. This is due to the way the rugs are made, and they are quite lightweight rugs.
Ruggable Pad System
How the Ruggable rug has been created is by having a removable decorative top to the rugs, and a velcro style pad system underneath. You can see here in the rolled-up photo the two different sections, I ordered a classic pad system, but you can order a cushioned pad system which is thicker and more cushioned, but will weigh more.
The pad system part doesn’t go inside the washing machine, so doesn’t matter if this is thicker and heavier if a cushioned rug is more what you’re looking for. I think it would be great in a lounge space, but for a higher traffic area or where chairs will be rolling over it, you should go for the classic pad system.
The pad is like a large piece of velcro that keeps the rug sticking to the floor, but allows the fabric section to velcro onto it to keep it in place. You have two sides to the pad, the velcro section for facing upwards, and the rubber-style bottom to adhere better to the floor.
Fitting The Ruggable Rug
Un rolling and lay the pad system with the velcro side facing upwards into the space you want the rug.
We then unfolded the fabric rug section and laid it down on the end, lining up the ends correctly.
It was easier with two people for this rug as it was really large, but then unfold section by section, flattening out the rug as you go along. It constantly wants to stick to the velcro, so you need to lift and stick it into place, section by section. I found it was easier to push out the folds and crinkles as we went along.
However, the ends each have a corner section to tuck into, but they don’t meet the pad underneath to be able to tuck into place. It comes short on mine, I am not sure why, but the pad isn’t the same size as the fabric section. I have had to purchase some stick rug grips for these ends as we slipped a few times on these sections as it’s super slippery without the rubber pad under it.
Ruggable Rug In Place
I’m really pleased with the Ruggable rug, it has ticked all my boxes for the interior look, the chairs can run along easily and it creates a zone for the table.
Looking at the website photos I did expect the rug to have a golden thread running through it, making it more of a shimmery rug, but it doesn’t. It’s more of a printed pattern on the rug, so a dull gold to it. But I do like it, and I am very happy with the finished look.
I also purchased a Ruggable rug for the kitchen space as well. This was more so to protect the wood flooring from the kitchen spills and bounce more light off down this end of the extension. I feel it’s worked really well and pretty different to have a rug like this in your kitchen!
It’s done what I wanted, and it gets dirty! As you can see here from this picture when it needed a wash! I would suggest to you though to clean any decent stains off more at the time and treat them. Some of these marks are oil-based stains, and I didn’t know. So they aren’t going to come out with just a wash-through.
Take a look at the Ruggable website to see about washing machine sizes and the rug you want. I have a 12kg rug and these rugs are decent sizes, and as you can see it only fill up the washing machine halfway.
I washed it on a delicate wash and hung it on the line to dry. I do have a high line washing line so things dry quickly on that, but it didn’t take long to dry at all. It had quite a few creases and I thought it might keep them once laid back down, but once it’s laid and pushed back out there weren’t any creases at all.
As you can see the rug cleaned up really well, apart from those oily stains, but that was my fault. I didn’t stain remove treat them at the time or before the wash. I will next time it’s washed and update the post.

I first did wonder about the chairs rolling and an active dining space. But considering it adhers somewhat to the floor because of the velcro is a great idea. The classic pad was good info. I personally am not fond of shimmery fabrics but loved this one. And I absolutely loved those chairs because I am recently already looking out for one that resembles the style.

Thank you, yes I wondered what the chairs will be like but it doesn’t move with them at all, they glide over it as it’s smooth. Same as the office chairs on it too.

This is such a good idea, rugs by there nature get walked upon and dirty, so the fact you can just pop it in the wash is perfect. I also like how it highlights the dinning table/eating area.
