We’re getting close to finishing the building part of the extension now, and I’ve shared my new room designs for our kitchen and utility room. So I thought I would share my teenage son’s bedroom designs. He has chosen this colour scheme himself which is lovely. I’ve helped find some pieces for him that work nicely and then he picked his favourite from them.
So I thought I would give you a rough idea of the things he would love in his room and the colour choices he’s going for.
Desk
You may wonder why I am featuring this first?! It’s the most important thing for Tyler in his room! He needs to be able to place his computer on a desk to be able to do his gaming!!! He is also going on a computer science path when he goes to college so needs to be able to have a space to study and work on the computer. We like this two tone wood and white colour scheme and a large top.
Wardrobe
Tyler has never had a wardrobe! Always having the smallest room in the house has meant there hasn’t ever been room for one and children’s clothes can easily be placed in a drawer. So now he will have a perfect place for a wardrobe in his new bedroom, and I’m going to make sure it’s nicely organised for him so he can make as much use of the space as possible.
Office Chair
Tyler has always wanted a large office chair at his desk but it’s always been too tight for a big one, so that’s a big must for him! We need to look at what different types of chairs would work in his room, he would love a gaming chair, but also have options of leather office chairs, fabric one, chairs with wheels or no wheels, and then arms or no arms! The choices are endless for him! It’s will be so nice for him to have a space he can make into his own more easily and pick things he loves. He will end up with a propergaming room for him, which he will love!
Bed
He would love to have a king-size bed in his room, but we have to think about the other items he wants in this room as well. Even a double bed would take up a large amount of space. So we have decided to go for a single bed instead to let him have more space for other items in the room.
He’s actually planning on having his Sisters bed (we’re get a new mattress) as her’s won’t fit in his old room that she’s moving into, so we have to do a swap around!
Colour Scheme
Right from the start, he wanted a very dark inky blue, which I do think will look lovely. He doesn’t want it all over the walls, just a feature wall and then an off white on the rest of the walls. He has a vaulted ceiling too, so lots of light into the room.
Blinds
Tyler would love to have blinds in his room, he’s currently got blinds in his room and loves them. His new bedroom has a larger window and looks out onto the front of the house. So he needs to have some privacy from the road, perfect fit blinds from Make My Blinds will keep the room hidden well, but also means blinds won’t hang over the window sil. This is where his desk might be placed too, so we don’t want curtains hanging onto his desk.
Lighting
Lighting in this room has been a little tricky as it’s a vaulted ceiling going straight up to the house line. It means there’s not really a centre line and the ceiling rose won’t sit level. So we had to come up with a lighting idea that allows the light to hang down at an angle but not look out of place.
Home Accessories
These little things will be added to over time, but it will be nice to give him some nice grown-up looking pieces of wall artwork and cushions to make the bed look more grown-up for him.

Teenage Boys New Bedroom
What do you think of the colour scheme and look of Tyler’s new bedroom? He cannot wait to have his own bedroom and to be able to have a space that he can retreat too and have a bit more space than he has had!

Great ideas, he clearly knows what he likes. I brought a light very similar to that one yesterday in Sainsbury’s and love it.
Oh good choice, I forget about Sainsburys for homeware but they always have some great pieces
oooh I love these ideas, we are currently doing my 9 year old son’s bedroom and I think that bed would be perfect for him. love the navy/gold theme here. Might have to go with something like that for him x
It’s quite grown up isn’t it, but I think they want that once they start getting to this age
That wardrobe is gorgeous! The IKEA Stuva wardrobes used to do a similar wooden door. I was so cross when they stopped them. We sold our old wardrobes when we moved over from Germany, planning to buy new ones here as it was cheaper that way then having them shipped. I almost cried when I realised they had been discontinued.
Oh that’s such a shame, it’s a good combo so hopefully they bring something like that back
I love these ideas. Chic and stylish a grown up look with the navy colour x
