Don’t you always hate it when the school shoes start wearing out before the kids have even grown out of them? I feel I haven’t had all the wear possible from them and given school shoes are usually quite expensive, I really want them to last. Of course, they can’t help growing and I happily change their school shoes then, but if they’ve stayed the same size but the shoes have worn away, then that is annoying!

So fed-up father of 3 Simon Locke struggled with the same issues, so he did something about it and developed his own brand of indestructible school shoes. After several years of research, product development and rigorous testing, he released his own brand Treads.

I think it’s hard to find a pair of hard-wearing school shoes, so I was very keen to find out more about this brand. Treads school shoes come with a 12-month indestructible guarantee and if they fall short of the high durability standards they will replace them for free. I think this is amazing!

Tyler who is nearly 15 wants a smart shoe for school, his secondary school doesn’t allow any type of school shoe that looks slightly like a trainer, so we picked the design MILAN.

When they arrived they felt so sturdy but lovely and cushioned inside too.  You will notice there is a message inside the shoes, there is a removable part from inside the shoe. By removing the orange EVA footbed it allows you to gain extra room if you need some more width. Tyler is quite narrow and he had quite a lot of room with keeping this sole in.

If you’re worried about the sizing and ordering online, Treads has an online size calculator where you can measure your child’s foot and it will help you decide which size. But with free returns, if they don’t fit you can easily return them with the pre-paid postage.

Treads have designed these shoes using a technique called “Strobel” where the upper is placed into a mould and the sole is then injected around it, creating one piece and no need for glue. This creates a really strong bond.

Treads shoes are also created using Permair Leather, which is still real leather but it has been finished with a unique micro porous finish, which allows the feet to breath more naturally and provides a layer of protection from scuffs, stains and water.

I think it’s really hard to find a pair of hard-wearing school shoes but I think Treads have done it. Tyler says these shoes are very comfy and I think they look super smart too.

Priced at £45 they’re on par with your other brands of school shoes. I think I will get a pair for all the kids! You can purchase through the Treads website or even through Amazon

*We were sent a pair to try, all opinions are honest and of my own.

  1. School shoes have been the bane of my life for a long time. My son was always scuffing and going through his shoes so ridiculously quick. I thought it would be easier having a girl but she likes to look like a princess but plays like a hyperactive puppy in the mud!

  2. I love that he knows the struggles that other parents go through and made something long lasting and stylish too

  3. I have actually see a couple of posts on these and they look as if they will be able to stand the rest of time being so robust! Whenever we get shoes we always want them to last for as long as they possibly can. My girls one have lasted all year.

  4. We made it to the end of the school year by hook or by crook this time (I was praying it wouldn’t rain in the last two weeks of term, as the shoes were so wrecked at that point and starting to come apart). In August I’ll have two sets of school shoes for the first time to sort.

    • My daughter’s shoes are just about hanging in there……hoping they last! I have 3 to buy and it really does hurt when it’s in one hit!

  5. I really needed to see this. This is our first high school shoe shop, I’ve got away with trainer type shoes at primary school, but my son just trashes them.

    I’m glad I’ve got this pinned x

  6. My kids go through shoes like nobody’s business. My daughter’s feet have grown again, her last pair were Clarkes and although they have worn well they were very expensive! I am happy to pay more if they last.

  7. These look so sturdy! My daughter’s shoes usually get totally battered. I’m going to have a look at what they do for girls.

  8. I can’t believe that this year is the first year we are shopping for school shoes, as my eldest daughter starts school! These look so smart and the fact that they are so hard wearing is such a bonus 🙂
