You may have spotted our visit to the beach on our Weekend In Pictures post on Monday, but if not I am going to show you what we got up to, and a few more pictures!

I love West Witterings beach, and have visited many times. We love to go in the winter when it is blowing a gale, and you can take the dog along to throw his ball around for him, and splash in the water. However in the summer they don’t allow dogs on the main part of the beach, so this time we headed off without him.

Although we didn’t go for a normal days play on the beach, we didn’t leave home until 5pm, and it is a 45 minute drive from home for us. I wanted to have dinner on the beach, once it wasn’t so hot the kids struggle (and me!) and wasn’t packed.

As you can see it wasn’t very busy at all when we arrived, and we quickly set up near to the car and toilets! You can just spot the car through the gap!

The kids couldn’t wait to get playing in the sand, and the ran off without getting changed to dig the biggest hole!

The downside with West Witterings is the wind, it is so windy down there and the sand was a bit of a problem and kept blowing in their eyes. You might spot Tyler with some very fetching brown sunglasses (mine!) just to protect his eyes.

We let them run around, and play happily in the sand together, whilst we enjoyed a cup of tea, and watching the birds!! These flasks are amazing, they hold the heat so well and great for making at home, and taking out with you.

The girls ran off towards the sea to ‘swim’ I knew this wouldn’t last as it wasn’t going to be warm……..they only went up to the ankles before they ran back again!

Although a quick stop off at an unattended hole!!

We cooked off some sausages at home and wrapped them up in foil, and tea towel to keep them warm. Packed up some hotdog buns, so we were all set for dinner. We did also bring some bacon to cook off, but as it was too windy we were worried about our little gas camping stove being blown out.

It got a little cold so jumpers on, and hide behind Dad for a wind break!! I made the most of the cuddles with my little Lily, we both said we could have easily fallen asleep on the beach curled up together.

Time to have some more playing with jumpers on, and full bellys.

However that wasn’t it, we managed to make a little wind break with our bags for our camping stove. Perfect for toasting marshmallows, such a simple idea, but the kids loved it.

We stayed until about 7:45pm when the sun was going down, getting a bit chilly but very peaceful.

Next time I’m bringing the kites!!

do you love to toast marshmallows, but don't want to bother lighting fires and creating a fire? Then check out how we like to toast marshmallows easily on the beach

We’re looking forward to a beach day at West Wittering in the summer. How lovely to live near enough to go for the evening. I love the idea of taking cooked sausages and hot dog buns – will have to remember that for our visit as the girls would much prefer that to sandwiches and I never think to try something different. I love the idea of toasting marshmallows on the beach. Looks like it was a beautiful evening 🙂 #countrykids

    • Thank you, we had a lovely evening together. Enjoy your visit to the beach, and enjoy your hotdogs!

  2. What a lovely plan to visit the beach in the evening and watch the sun go down, and enjoy a quieter beach. Love the beach huts too, beautiful images x #countrykids

  3. The beach here looks just like my kids favourite beach in Hemsby, near Great Yarmouth. So I think they’d love it here too. It looks like you guys had a great time 🙂

  4. So now I know where that lovely marshmallow toasting picture I saw on Instagram fits in! What a lovely idea to leave it till late in the day and then head down to the beach. It looks lovely there despite the wind and cool enough for the kids to happily run around and dig without wilting in the heat. I actually went in and swam for about half an hour last week, the first time in ages without a wet suit, not sure if the sea is getting warmer or I’m getting braver! Taking warm sausages is a good idea, I might copy this, saves sandy sausages trying to cook them there.

Thank you for sharing with me on #CountryKids

    • Thank you for your lovely comment Fiona, it was great fun and the kids loved it. I can’t wait to do it again

    • That’s what is so lovely about the summer isn’t it, so much more time together.
