I thought I best show you all one of the house projects we’ve been busy with over the past few months. It is one I am so pleased with and cannot wait to show you the finished room!

Our bathroom renovation

Our bathroom is a wonderful aqua/turquoise colour but very solid and in such good condition for it’s age. My mum who bought a house a couple of years after this one was built said you needed to pay extra to have a coloured bathroom suite put in!!! Wonder how much extra they did pay!!??

When the removal guys turned up and we’re looking around the house, he said I am not sure what is worst, the bathroom suite or the carpet!!! Which one do you think is worse? The towel material style curtains look good too don’t they!!!

Whilst I was waiting to have it completely renovated I took it on myself to tile over the bath (where the flower wallpaper is) with cheap white tiles so we can then put in a shower over the bath. We purchased some mixer taps for the bath ready to hang up the nozzle.

We have been having just baths since moving in, which when there is 5 of you it takes ages! Then I usually end up with two little girls playing with the water whilst i’m bathing, I feel like the mummy elephant from the book 5 Minutes Peace

I think I did quite well, it was the first time I have tiled so it was a learning curve, this is what I am enjoying with this house being able to get stuck in do things I have never done before. BUT I haven’t learnt how to cut tiles so hubby did those little bits around the edges.

Well I never did get my shower in with the mixer taps, we couldn’t get the 45 year old taps off!!! Then we had a big leak from the bath pipes and had to call someone in. So we decided that the time had come after 12 months of baths to get the bathroom completely done!

So I needed to get my bargain head on, we needed to get the shower, sink, flooring and taps but on a budget!

Off I went to grab a bargain………

  2. I’m in a newer house, just over 15 years old, and there was a peach suite when we moved in. It really was strange, with maroon tiles that the sellers told us were very expensive and self heating!? When we came to change them, we realised the water pipes were under the floor! Still makes me chuckle. Can’t wait to see how you get on, I’ve linked up my ensuite makeover. #loveyourhome

  3. I’m another one who grew up with a blue bathroom suite (and blue tiles with white painted flowers on) and carpet on the floor… I personally find carpets in bathrooms (and kitchens) a bit bizarre so find it funny to think back to how that was my “normal” when growing up. Cannot wait to see how it ended up!! I imagine it was a huge relief to finally get it all sorted.

  4. I admit I kind of have a soft spot for these old bathrooms, even though I bet they are a nightmare to live in. Great work on the tiling!

We did our bathroom up last year for around £2000 including the suite and flooringrh by buying second hand stuff on ebay. Often when some people move house stuff isn’t to their taste so you can get some massive margins. I got a £1000 bath for £100 and used Shiply to deliver. Good luck with the rennovations 🙂 #loveyourhome

  5. Wow, who would have thought you needed to pay extra to have a coloured suite put in. Can’t wait to see how it all goes! #loveyourhome

Before I realised this was part one of two, I was going to say I think it looks quite good with the white tiles over the turquoise, I could see that working with the existing suite (but now you’ve taken it out!) I wonder will those coloured suites every come back in fashion, they must be becoming so rare as everyone takes them out?
Looking forward to the next instalment! #loveyourhome

  7. I hope you have realised that this is the before pictures of my bathroom!! Part 2 will have the now pictures…….

  8. It is so well made, put it this way the bath needed to be cut in half to get it out the bathroom….watch out for part 2!!

  9. I can’t believe you tiled your bathroom! Must have been so much work 🙂 It’d be great if you shared the tutorials you used? Jesse.

    • I still had to get hubby to cut the tiles though as I am a bit of a wimp with the blades!! I just followed a Youtube video as it is quite easy to do. Although as your find out in part 2 those white tiles never stayed there….
