Sorry my blog has been a bit quiet recently, we are bogged down with half term, puppy, illness, holidays and renovating our kitchen!
My mind is rather full up with decision making and keeping everyone happy, however I wanted to give you an update on our kitchen renovation. When I previously wrote about it, we hadn’t done anything apart from choose which kitchen we were having from B&Q.
As my husband is fitting it himself, things take longer to complete as he also is working and still enjoying our days out together. I am so thankful that he is happy to fit it himself as it saves us so much money.
The downside is…..your house ends up looking like this and my nice lounge renovation doesn’t look so nice anymore!
Even the dog was confused on what all this was in his house. So this is how it has stayed for quite a while, until we thought it was a good idea to host a dinner party around ours…….it was pre-arranged when we thought we would have more space by that point. However like all renovation plans they never go to plan, and we then had to move lots of boxes to my bedroom!
So this is our current kitchen, it was a temporary one which we put together 3 years ago just to make it a much better space than a 1960’s original kitchen could offer.
As you can see it was full up with stuff, as we had 1 wall cupboard to put food in and then rest were full up with kitchen essentials to use. I went for a dark floor as I thought it would be easier to upkeep but it just darkens the room, the fridge was from our old house and far too big and dark. So this is all gone now!
We had the electrician in to add more plug sockets, tidy the ones we had up, move the light into the middle of the ceiling and move the light switch from the old dining room doorway. If you have this done in your house, top tip is to take everything out of the room. Don’t leave lots of things in there, like I did. The dust this creates goes everywhere and there is so much of it.
Next stop time to plaster over the electricians work, and get rid of the Artex bubbles on the ceiling.
Another really messy job, but I was ready for this one! If you are local to me (Hedge End, Southampton) and need a decent plasterer, then Proficient Plastering is your man! He has done a fantastic job and we are really pleased with it.
The bubbles have gone! Look how lovely and smooth that is, we are really lucky and most of the house was Artex free. However I never thought it would make that much difference to have a smooth ceiling but it really does.
You can also see that I have painted, I have used Valspar paint again. I love it, I haven’t used their kitchen paint before so I was keen to see how it compared to their normal emulsion paint. I wasn’t disappointed, it did have to have 2 coats, but it went on so easy and quick. With great coverage, it hide all the new plaster, old paint colours and filling.
I used their colour matching service again, as I wanted it to match the new floor tiles I have chosen. I am being a little bold with my choice in tiles, so keep your fingers crossed with works well!
Pretty good match hey!
I thought I was also give you a real life mood board of my kitchen and what we have chosen. I have included our kitchen doors, handles, paint, floor tiles and worktop.
What do you think of my ideas?
Please subscribe to my blog to follow the rest of our kitchen renovation, it is a big job for us but I think it will be great once it is all done!
*I was sent the Valspar paint for review, however all words are honest and of my own.
