Finally, I can finally show you our last new room to show you! The new extended hallway has been finished off and is such a great useable space for us all. With a family of five and a big dog, we needed a space that was big enough and well organised for us all. no excuse for the kids to leave stuff anywhere now is there?!
Hallway Before
Neutral and Gold Hallway Reval
As you can see it’s a big difference!
Layout
We extended out the front by about 2 metres which allowed the door to be pushed right forward, and an internal door into my son’s new bedroom to the right-hand side. I know I say it about every room we’ve had in this extension but this added space and room makes such an amazing difference to our daily life as a family. When we all arrive home together it was a squeeze but not anymore, everything has a place!
Paint Colours
Like a lot of the other rooms in the new extension, the walls have been painted with Valspar paint and colour matched to Donkey Ride from Earthbourne. It’s a warm beige/cream that works with pretty much every colour! I have added quite a bit of colour into the rest of the house, but as we already had the stairs carpeted in a cream carpet I stuck with a more neutral tone in this area.
Storage
Storage is one of the key things to think of when creating a family home. As much as you may want to live a clutter-free minimalist lifestyle, it’s super hard with kids and pets! So creating storage areas and places for items to go is key.
Shoe storage has always been a frustration with me, I have struggled to ever find something suitable. We have so many shoes between us!! So we designed our own storage bench with cupboards for shoes underneath.
We looked at the IKEA Kallax items and we measured up the area and it worked perfectly. We could have one length of 4 units, and one single one around the other side. Adding the doors onto the front made it a lovely clean and tidy storage and one cupboard for each family members shoes!
We then added a wooden top to it that matches the wood flooring, that’s because it is wood flooring!!
Wooden Shelving
Coat storage as well is another must-have and be able to have it to reach easily. I was going to have the coats over the bench storage but my Sister made a good point that they will drip onto the bench when wet. So having them tucked against the wall on the side is a perfect place.
We made the lengths long so that the coats didn’t get piled up together and space between them. We placed a lower level one so if we all have dripping coats then we can place these ones along the bottom to drip. We just have to be aware of the plug socket!
Flooring
From the start of planning this hallway, I knew I needed a super practical floor. 10 muddy feet and 4 paws coming in from a walk are always going to cause a mess! We have the solid wood flooring running through the main part of the hallway leading to the upstairs and other rooms which we love, but it won’t love our wet feet! So I’ve sectioned off this area with some vinyl flooring.
I originally picked this up cheaply to just get it laid down when the build had finished, but the driveway was all dug over. Hoping to keep the mess down and easy to clean. But it’s just stayed as it really works for us. Super easy to wipe down!
Little Storage
Don’t you love these little baskets along the top of this shelf?! These are from Roov.co.uk and £4 for a set of two. I thought this a perfect area to place little items, they’re hidden but easily accessible for me. I was really impressed with the quality of the items from Roov and I’ve seen quite a few items that we’re cheaper on Roov.co.uk than Amazon.
The big basket on the floor is for our walking boots, I picked this up from Homesense for £29.99 and placed a black bag liner in the bottom. The little basket next to it is for winter and summer items, I always want things to hand and to have a place, makes family life run much smoother!!
These cute little hanging storage pots from Roov.co.uk have a few uses, you could place a trailing plant in each one, but I’m going to use it to place items in for my dog walks. Things I need to take our regularly so I can just grab them.
Plants
Talking of plants, my new rooms can’t be renovated without a plant being added to it, and this time we have two added! Although my peace Lily was looking a little sad when I took these photos, I had it on the other side which was too near the radiator, and after a nice water and relocation, it was happy again.
Tree2mydoor sent me this rubber plant, with shiny dark green leaves it will grow nicely up this area by the front door. Staying neatly in this area so it doesn’t get in the way of the walkway or doors. I’ve placed it on an adjustable plant stand from Roov.co.uk to give it some height.
Accessories
I’m also quite happy to add in some artificial plants in too, placing them on the little shelf adds some colour and interest to the room but I don’t have to remember to water these little ones! All the items on this shelf, including the shelf, are from Roov.co.uk. Which is such a great online homestore with really well-priced items, quick delivery and you can even collect reward points to give you money off your next order.
I added another one of these baskets to this shelf to store face masks, a sign of the times! With a little mirror from Dunelm to check yourself on the way out.
I’m also thinking I might add a fabric cushioned back to the wall above this bench seating, It will also add some texture and colour to the room.
Photos
I take so many photos and never get to enjoy them, and one of my favourite blog projects is my Me and Mine family photo project. I’ve now got 5 years worth of family photos, capturing memories and family moments we’ve had together. So I picked out a few of my favourites, our little Hearing Dogs and pet dogs included and some holidays. These little frames come in a set of 10 which worked really well for this space.
Vacuum Storage
It’s not pretty looking but it’s super functional having my Dyson cordless vacuum stored her. Using the bracket supplied it can be hung and charging with the plug socket right here. We also have the ring doorbell connector plugged in here to it can connect easily.

Wow, you’ve been busy. I love the way you’ve styled the hallway. The baskets along that top shelf are a great idea to avoid the room looking messy and help with storage.
Yep nicely tucked up out of the way, but can still put lots of things away!
I really love this. It looks amazing and practical too. Those hanging shelves are gorgeous. It looks really light and airy. It seems silly to think a hallway can make such a difference to your life, but having sorted our under stairs storage last year, I can agree that it makes a huge difference.
Amazing isn’t it, just having a place to put things when we come home has allowed it to be much more organised and easy to leave the house
Wow! I LOVE those cabinets in the hallway. Perfect for storing loads of stuff in that you would just normally have lying around!
Everyone has a cupboard for their shoes…..no more shoes around….we hope!
Wow it looks so good! So light, spacious and tidy! I love all the little features you’ve included which make it look really stylish too.
Thank you very much, I love how much more space it has given us and room to place these bits of storage in
It looks lovely, very Scandi and modern. I love the mint green shelves with the neutral walls – very spacious and neat.
Thank you, a nice little touch of colour with neutral colours!
Your hallways has so much space! Ours is so narrow that we can’t do much with it.
It’s so frustrating when it’s narrow isn’t it as you need the space to get in and out of the house don’t you, but you want things to hand to get out there house!
That is gorgeous – I love it! We need to make our hall more inviting (and practical) – some great ideas here
Thank you, a bit of both practical and inviting items in here.
