Yes summer, you know that season where it is hot, dry and we spend lots of time in the garden? Believe it or not, we’re in it! One day it’s pouring with rain and then next it is blazing sunshine, so you need to get outside and get your garden ready for summer, as tomorrow you never know, you may get the chance to get outside.

So I have put together my 5 ways to get your garden ready for summer

5-ways-to-get-your-garden-ready-for-summer

Power wash your decking/patio

Over the winter decking and patio slabs get a layer of slimy dirt and become really slippery. If you have a power washer, make the most of it and blast off any dirt. This job is so satisfying as your see the colour changing and the dirt disappearing.

Tidy up borders of flower beds and lawns

Untidy borders really do make the garden look untidy, give the edges a quick weed and neaten up, your be surprised how much of a difference that makes. For tidy lawns, and easy maintenance, install some plastic lawn edging around the edges. This gives a neat edge, easy to mow around, and creates a distinction from you borders and lawn.

Mow the lawn regularly

Throughout the summer the grass grows and grows, so much that it really needs mowing weekly, so try to keep on top of it if you can. It is so much easier to give the grass a quick run over with the mower, rather than a meadow to mow!

Weed in between the patio slabs

I love to sit outside and eat in the summer on our patio, however the patio slabs are always growing grass out of the gaps, and it looks so untidy. You can either give it a simple scrape out to remove any weeds and grass, or spray some weed killer on them. Go careful on what you use though, if you have pets or children. We have tried boiling water down the gaps, which I think has worked quite well, but is very time consuming for a large patio.

Repair broken fencing and repaint

During the winter, the fences take some battering with the wind and rain. Go around and check them all for gaps, broken slats and pulling away from the posts. Repair any broken parts, to keep them secure and safe. Then you can give them a fresh lick of paint, which will give your garden a fresh new look for the summer.

How many of these have your done or are on your list! I would love to know what else you do to get your garden ready for summer?
