It’s been ages, I’m sorry!

So first off I’m sorry for not updating sooner! The last time I updated on the blog we had just carpeted Tyler’s room and we were waiting on our worktop……oh so much has happened!

Well, the builders have now gone!

I will give you a little rundown of the main things that happened during the last couple of weeks leading up to Christmas and the week after the new year. We had a crazy couple of weeks getting lots and lots finished off for Christmas and me and Kev were exhausted when we got to Christmas! So enjoyed a good full couple of weeks off from renovation jobs. It was well needed, but also makes it harder to get back into the swing of things! Also means you have lots of things to do and struggle to juggle it all!

Everyone Wanted The Driveway Done Before Xmas!

We all wanted to get it done before Christmas to tick off a job but we had so much rain. It was silly and the groundworks were like marshmallow and too soft to put the bricks on. The builders went off to make a start on a house extension London job which allowed the driveway to dry out, and finish off when they returned.

A building site with a small orange digger on a levelled earth area, surrounded by building materials and tools—looks like a major update for a house extension, with a van parked nearby on the residential road.

I had the radiators all connected up and my pretty gold valves on.

A white vertical column radiator attached to a light-coloured wall, with copper pipes and a valve at the bottom—an ideal choice for your next house extension, set beside a bare floor and skirting board.

Tyler and I tried to build his wardrobe! Tried being the word, it was so hard!!!

A partially assembled white bed frame lies on a grey carpet next to a matching bed with a mattress—tools, screws, an instruction sheet, and small containers are scattered around the room in the midst of a house extension.

We said goodbye to the fridge and freezer set up in the lounge

A large wooden workbench with a thick top stands against a grey wall beneath a mounted TV. White cupboards are underneath, with storage inside—part of a big update following the recent house extension. A dog lies on the floor next to the bench.

Managed to clear the floor!!!

A person lies sprawled on a wooden floor in a mostly empty room. A table with household items sits in the background—perhaps part of a recent house extension, with bare walls and a large window brightening the space.

Had the lights connected up and installed!

A modern kitchen under construction with wooden cupboards, an unfinished island, and major update features like a stainless steel oven and open shelving. Pendant lights hang above as tools are scattered—part of a stunning house extension filled with natural light.

The Worktop Was Installed

OK this was the most exciting thing to happen! If you had been following our renovation journey you would have seen that the kitchen company went into liquidation on us, and it was nothing but stress at the time. We had our worktop company booked through another company and they originally came out to measure up and couldn’t as it was in such a state. They managed to find us another slot right before Christmas!

Two white suction clamps with black handles and a blue hose are securing and aligning two pieces of light-coloured worktop at a corner seam during a house extension installation. A kitchen roll sits on the right side of the worktop.

Look how beautiful the worktop is and gold tap and sink! I wanted something different and I think we achieved that one!

A modern kitchen worktop with a gold sink and matching gold tap, set in a white marble surface—a stunning big update perfect for any house extension. A power point is visible on the wall above the worktop.

The fridge and freezer was wired up!!! Look at the size of that, especially when we’ve been used to such a small room and a small fridge for years!!!

An empty fridge with the door open, showing clear shelves and door compartments, is built into wooden kitchen cabinetry. The surrounding kitchen, part of a major update and house extension, appears to be under construction or refurbishment.

My outside lights connected! We went for Philips Hue ones as we really love the flexibility of them and can connect them up to our other smart lighting.

A modern wall light fitting emits a warm glow on a brick exterior wall above a black Ring video doorbell, highlighting the entrance to a home’s new house extension.

We had a water leak! The builders found the source after Christmas and have nicely repaired it now.

We called in the troops to help out painting!!

It was so nice to get a coat of paint on the hallway. It just tied it all together and made it neater. I really pushed myself to get this done for Christmas and paid the price for it! I still have another coat to paint though!!!

My lovely builder boss came over with some flowers and chocolates!

I cleared and cleaned everywhere so we could use it over Christmas instead of decorating anymore!

The put the Christmas tree up on the 23rd of December!!!

Still have no kitchen doors, but just ordered these ones on 20th Jan!

It’s horrible seeing all the contents of the cupboards and the kids can see all the sweet stuff!!!

I got my desk and computer moved into the back family room. I wanted to be in the room with the light and see into the garden. Problem is the sunshine is shining onto the screen, so I need to sort out some curtains/blinds for the doors!

Vlog Leading Up To Christmas

Back In The New Year

The builders came back in January for one week to complete the driveway, which was so nice to be able to get done.

We’ve tried to stop and enjoy our new space. I hadn’t sat in this seat before and it was lovely being able to sit and look out into the garden with the shine shining in.

it’s changed out lives already. Kev is the cook in the house and he used to always be on his own in the kitchen when cooking. I can now sit at the breakfast bar with him and catch up and be together. If I’m at my desk we’re still in the same room too, it’s lovely.

They’ve Finished!

The house now looks really smart from the outside and we are over the moon with it.

Now The Lounge!

The builders booked in the plasterer to skim the lounge ceiling and also the wall which we divided the room with, so everything we could get out the room we did! But now I think we should just decorate the lounge whilst it’s empty, don’t you! So my head has been full of designing of the lounge!!

Meet The Team On The Build!

I managed to get a photo of the builders that were on site with me, meet Josh, Craig and Bill.

They’ve been great fun and nice to be able to get on with them all. I didn’t feel silly asking them stuff, they didn’t laugh too much when I said stupid stuff!!! I will kind of miss them turning up each day and making them their morning coffee. It’s very strange making one hot drink each time I make one now!

The dog even got a goodbye treat for him too!

This is also Scott the electrician!

Here he is in my massive light that he couldn’t believe his eyes when he opened the box!!!! He’s such a great lad too and has done the electrics for my whole new extension and all the extra bits we had put in. He’s only young but has a great work ethic and I am sure he’s going to do great in his future career.

So that is that for updates on the builders, now it’s our turn and I will be sharing all the things we do and progress as we decorate and put back together our new home! Thank you for following us on this journey and I hope you enjoyed it

Head over to my Instagram or Facebook where you can follow daily updates and stories to see behind the scenes each week. I’m really enjoying sharing this build and I hope it gives you an idea on what goes on when building an extension if you’re ever thinking of having one yourself.

  1. Crikey – I can’t believe how much work you’ve done it’s amazing. I’ve been following along on Instagram and marvel at how quickly things seem to have moved. It must have felt like the work was going on forever, but I guess when you look back now, it wasn’t too bad when it means that you get the house you want. I’m hoping to get a few things sorted at home this year and I’ve definitely been inspired by you!

    • Ah brilliant Lauretta! It’s been great to document it as you realised how quickly things did go along. It’s all worth it as space is so much better as a family space now and we love it

It really is coming along isn’t it. I love your driveway. It looks very smart. I think I’m a bit in love with your dining table also

    • It’s so nice to pull up outside and see a smart driveway now, finishes everything off so nicely. The table is great, pulls out to make a 10 seater table!

  6. Oh wow it looks fab! I love the view you have with the sun, when having your morning drink 🙂 I bet it’s lovely to chat with hubby too when he’s cooking. A relief to be done but odd without the builders!
