Liquidation is not the word you want to see from your kitchen company!

So after my post last time where I was super pleased as the house was really coming along. Rooms were coming together, plastering was starting and the kitchen was due to be delivered. I mentioned in the last post it was a bit delayed. That was just the start!!

So on with week 13!

Week 13

The kitchen fitters were meant to be turning up today, no sign of them! I got a message at 7:40pm in the evening on Sunday to say they weren’t. Overrunning with a job. Due later on in the week.

So that gave the builders the opportunity to get the dining area plasterboarded out ready for plastering.

A room undergoing refurbishment for a house extension, with unfinished walls and ceiling, exposed wiring, building materials, and tools scattered about. Large glass doors lead outside, and some areas are covered with protective cloths.

We were lowing the ceiling to make the steel in the middle disappear. It works a treat and now we will have a lovely flat ceiling, making it look like a original large room, rather than two knocked together.

A room under construction for a house extension with unfinished plasterboard, exposed wires, building materials, and tools scattered about. Temporary lights hang from the ceiling, as equipment awaits organisation or disposal.

A fluffy white dog lies on a wooden floor in a room undergoing a house extension, with tools, supplies, and a ladder in the background. The relaxed pup faces the camera amid the renovation chaos.

An exciting delivery on Tuesday! Our solid wood flooring!! We took so long to decide what we wanted on the floor, so for it to arrive was super exciting!!!

A stack of wood flooring planks and boxes, part of a house extension project, sits in the middle of a partially renovated room with unfinished walls and an open window.

Because we made the patio doors bigger we have sunshine in the hallway now! We are having glass doors separating the kitchen and hallway too, so I won’t lose this either with the new doors.

A hallway with wooden floors, a white radiator on the right wall, blue plastic-covered stairs to the left—perfect for a house extension project—with sunlight streaming in from rooms at the end of the hall.

The plasterer has worked his magic on this room!!! It’s such a great sight to see as once dry we can paint!!

Also how lovely is it to see all out into the garden, I know I’m going to love this in the summer months.

Oh the kitchen arrived!!! I was very happy to see it delivered, little did I know this was going to be the only part of my kitchen I will see!

A white van with rear doors open reveals several light wooden cupboards, possibly for a house extension, stacked inside. The van is parked on a residential street under a clear blue sky.

They got it in, and started to install it. The guy was a kitchen fitter who had only been asked to come out that morning to fit this. He kept saying to me what a struggle it was to install and how it wasn’t going to work.

A kitchen undergoing renovation with unfinished cupboards, exposed plaster walls, and tools scattered across the floor. Part of a house extension project, there are no appliances installed and bare light bulbs hang from the ceiling.

Friday came and I kept saying to the kitchen installer I needed it in properly as we had the worktop templates out on Monday. They never managed it and the boss kept palming me off all weekend. I hoped someone would come out Monday morning to finish off.

A partially renovated kitchen with unpainted plaster walls, exposed wiring, unfinished cupboards, and scattered tools—part of a larger house extension. Temporary lights illuminate the work area surrounded by building materials from a recent liquidation.

Saturday came and we wanted to do something fun and exciting! So we painted the dining area! The kids had been bursting to do some painting with us!

Two children use paint rollers to paint a white wall in a house extension with wooden floors. One wears a striped shirt and green trousers, while the other sports a dark top and pink leggings. Painting supplies are scattered on the floor.

A whitewash on the ceiling is a nightmare and so splatty!!! Hence safety first with my goggles!!!

Kev got my washing moved into the utility room and temporally plummed in.

We got a another coat of paint on the walls, loving the sunshine coming in this room

November Me and Mine!! It’s roughly the same area as the previously Me and Mines!

I got a lesson on how to lay solid wood flooring! We stuck the radio on and got laying some floor! This was the exciting part!!!!!

Always got a helper!!!

We’re super pleased with it. It brings so much warmth to the room and I love the natural look to it.

Week 14

So back to it, Monday the builders got on with the drainage out the back (you don’t want a picture of that!)

Tuesday came and we should have had a kitchen fitter out, and also a call from the director as I had complained about the lack of fitting and care taken. We had missed out templating for our worktop as the kitchen units were so badly fitted.

So things didn’t seem right, and when we saw that the company directors had set up a new kitchen company back in October, alarms bells started to ring.

So we headed off down there to the unit to see and found this note on the door. I felt sick. They had 50% off our money and I didn’t have 50% worth of my kitchen.

We were gutted. We tracked down the other director who is still trading and selling kitchens from a shop nearby under another name maybe.

He gave us a lot of fluff and promised we would get everything…….w/c 16th December. Well, that’s convient, right before everything shuts down for Christmas. We weren’t prepared to wait and trust them. the trust had gone. So we pushed and pushed to get our money back. With success! Minus the cost of the units, we had delivered as we thought they were good enough.

It turns out some are broken, wrong sizes, not suitable, poorly laid out and sink badly installed. So we have paid another local company to fix the issues and put together a much better working kitchen.

We will then have to wait until after Christmas to get the doors and fronts as it’s too close to Christmas. If only they had let us know about this, we could have been sorted for Christmas. I feel so let down by them, and I never did get my phone call from the director. He justs didn’t care and that makes it even worse.

So the builders happily got on with clearing the driveway! We had to have the driveway done to get planning permission from the council, as we were increasing the bedrooms we needed parking spaces added to.

Our lovely doors arrived!

All the drainage was done and finished off. We’re going to extend the patio in summer towards the house as there was solid concrete here instead.

They moved the portaloo!!! It’s the first time I’ve seen the front of the house built up like this.

The weekend came around again and it’s time for more painting!! Tyler got on and started to paint his bedroom!

We haven’t got a cooker, so Mum cooked us dinner for us all!

We needed to move the old kitchen units we kept into their position, ready for the plumbers to install their bits and bobs the other side.

It’s a lovely way to spend your 12th Wedding Anniversary together! We made it out in the morning to Winchester Christmas Market, but back home to paint and get DIY done. We finished up after about 8 hours with a yummy Chinese!

Head over to my Instagram or Facebook where you can follow daily updates and stories to see behind the scenes each week. I’m really enjoying sharing this build and I hope it gives you an idea on what goes on when building an extension if your ever thinking of having one yourself.

  1. Oh no what a nightmare! These things are always sent to test us but it will all be worth it in the end!

  2. Everything looks like it’s coming on so well… but. Oh my gosh about the kitchen!! I can’t believe that they did that to you and possibly other families as well. It’s so sad that they couldn’t even be bothered to call. Well done on getting that refund and moving forwards with the kitchen – even though it won’t be till after Christmas. It will be worth it in the end. Xx

    • Yes I know it’s not fair is it, just wish they had let us know before hand so we could do something about it sooner. Thank you, I will be worth it

  3. It sounds like it has been a busy few weeks – the kitchen fitting company sound like an absolute nightmare, seems like they really messed you around.

    • Yeah they really messed up which is such a shame as it was going really well.

    • Yeah it wasn’t nice at all, very frustrating too. But glad there are good people around to help out.

  4. Gosh how stressful for you all. It is looking good so far though and at least you managed to get most of your money back. I would have been livid!

  5. Great to see it all coming together! Nice to see the pooch joining in on the action!
