Whether you’ve just had brand new beautiful kitchen cabinetry installed or want to ensure longevity from your current cabinets, knowing how best to care for your kitchen cabinetry is essential to enhancing the enjoyment of your kitchen space. But what is the best way to care for your kitchen cabinetry? We’ve put together a little guide including any major do’s and don’ts when it comes to cleaning, maintenance and repairs.
Cleaning kitchen cabinetry
Think about it – your kitchen cabinets will be exposed to a lot day-to-day; food and drink spillages, children’s sticky handprints and general grease and grime build-up. The best cleaning products to use will depend on the material of your kitchen cabinetry. As a universal rule, however, avoid anything too harsh or full of chemicals and don’t use abrasive cleaning sponges. Check out We Made This Vegan for a homemade all purpose natural cleaner, as this would be great to use.
For a general wipe-down, simply using a soft cloth dampened with warm water should be enough to wipe away any mess and restore the look and feel of your kitchen. If water alone isn’t doing the trick on any stubborn grime, mix a little mild dishwasher soap with the water and try again. Don’t forget to dry them down with a separate cloth to remove any residual moisture.
Keep them dry
Particularly if you have engineered wood or solid timber cabinets, keep your cabinets dry to avoid damaging the finish or warping the natural material. When you’re washing up or preparing food, it’s all too easy for liquids to drip down onto bottom-level cabinetry. If this happens, it’s best to be safe and wipe spills up immediately.
The same goes for your worktops – water spillages should be mopped up immediately before they can cause any damage. If excess moisture is left sitting on your kitchen surfaces, it can become a problem in time.
Glass and mirrored surfaces
Do you have glass or mirrored panels within your kitchen cabinets? If so, you’ll know that it can be all too easy for glass to become marked with fingerprints and dust. It can also be tricky to get glass surfaces to look perfect and shiny without the right products and kit.
Opt for a specific glass cleaner or white vinegar solution or spray and use either a microfibre cloth or a paper towel to wipe, The same ones that you use for the glass panel of a dishwasher or microwave. A good tip is to spray your cleaning solution directly onto your cloth or paper towel, rather than onto the glass. That way, the liquid won’t seep down into the framework joints.
Pay attention to handles, knobs and hinges
Don’t forget about any handles, knobs and hinges. Hardware can get ignored but think about it – it sees a lot of traffic! A speedy wipe-down with diluted washing-up liquid is enough to remove any dirt build-up and grease. Depending on what your hardware is made from, you may want to avoid any cleaning agents that contain lemon or acidic ingredients because they can discolor the finish.
Every now and then, it’s a good idea to gently take a toothbrush to the joints and edges of handles, knobs and hinges to tackle any dirt and dust build-up.
You know what they say – the kitchen is the heart of the home. It’s a room that is well worth investing in and caring for, especially bespoke kitchens that have been lovingly created to perfectly suit you and your family. Keeping on top of minor cleaning and care daily will keep your kitchen and its cabinetry looking beautiful for years and years to come.

My kitchen is my least favourite place in the world. Just because my cabinet is on the floor and it’s always wet.
So I am glad I saw this post.
Glad it was helpful for you, thanks
