I’ve loved getting back into my craft making this year and I’ve started to give new crafts a try. Ryobi is a fantastic brand to work with for not only their DIY tools, but also they have a brilliant selection of craft tools too. I’ve always wanted to try out the resin craft, so thought this would be a great opportunity to give this ago, as I was sent the Ryobi Rotary Tool and a Ryobi Soldering Iron to come up with a Christmas craft.

Resin Christmas Craft

I wanted to create little jewellery resin items, or charm type resin shapes for me to be able to make a wine glass charm. These are great to be able to place on your glasses around the Christmas table so everyone knows what glass is theirs!

I also wanted to make some Christmas tree decorations out of resin, so got some large mould shapes for this.

I picked up all my craft items off Amazon which I will pop a list below of. I made sure I got a good selection of moulds to give me options on the shapes and sizes of my crafts.

How To Make Resin

The resin came in two bottles with 3 cups. You need to add one type of resin in equal parts into each cup.

Two bottles labelled Epoxy Resin and Hardener stand on a table, alongside two clear cups with liquid and wooden stirrers—perfect for creating Resin Christmas Crafts. A green power tool and silicone mould sit in the background.

Then mix these two up together in the empty cup, it has to be mixed super well for quite a while.

A gloved hand stirs a clear liquid resin in a plastic cup with a wooden stick, preparing for Resin Christmas Crafts. Small containers of glitter in various colours sit on a patterned tablecloth in the background.

This is when you could make up a colour of resin by adding in your pigment colour, however I left mine clear as I wanted to give it a go at adding in glitter and steaks of colour.

A clear liquid resin is being poured into a silicone mould with various geometric shapes on a floral-patterned tablecloth, perfect for creating Resin Christmas Crafts like festive pendants or charms.

But this was a bit tricky!! And quite a few was runied! I also found you need to make sure the pigment colour is inside the resin otherwise it won’t dry.

A silicone mould filled with colourful resin shapes—hearts, stars, and gems—sits on a table surrounded by glitter jars and resin pigment bottles, perfect for creating festive Resin Christmas Crafts.

This is when you can add in your glitter though

I made the larger moulds suitable for Christmas baubles, and the smaller ones for charms.

Now all you need to do is left it to dry until the resin is dry.

Putting Together The Resin Craft

I picked out some charms I was happy with and that had come out nicely,  these were the ones I could use for the drink charms.

I used my Ryobi screwdriver to drill a very small hole in the top and bottom of one charm, and the top of the other.

Using the jewellery findings kit I popped two little rings through the holes and joined them together.

The Ryobi cordless soldering iron is a really compact but powerful soldering iron. Running on the ONE+ Ryobi battery it heats up quickly and made the job of joining the rings together really easy.

Just a tiny little bit of solder on the gap of the ring, keeps the ring secure and the charms together.

I had a stronger bit of wire that I shaped around a circular item to the size that fitted nicely around the stem of the wine glass. Wrapped a small piece of jewellery gold wire around it to give it some more interest, and then soldered a bit more on the ends to secure this wire.

The Ryobi cordless Rotary Tool is a brillaint little craft tool which I know is going to really come in handy for so many things. It has various litle attachments that can sand different materials, it can engrave glass, it can cut items and carve into wood. It has so many intricate jobs around the home and crafts.

I wanted to use this to finish off my item, making it smooth to touch and a rounded edge to the wire and soldered areas.

Finished Resin Glass Charms

I was really pleased with these, and I am looking forward to making many more of them!

Christmas Tree Resin Decorations

Once I had all the different shaped resins, I could decide the shapes I wanted to put into the tree. I loved the clear ones with the glitter shapes inside, as you can see the Christmas lights through them.

I used the soldering iron at join the rings together, but also used the earring findings I had in the kit to make a hanger for the decoration to attach to the tree! I like that you can’t really see the hanger too!

I’m really pleased to have these two new tools added to my Ryobi collection, and being able to use the same ONE+ battery for all the tools just makes things so much easier, and the shed so much tidier!
